Topic: 1975 CB 750 Should I be Suspicious?

I ran across a 75 750 K5 today. The engine was supposed to have been rebuilt last year. The bike looks all stock but needs paint. The guy wants a $1000 for it but I'm suspicious. For starters the speedo only shows 24000 miles and if you rebuilt a motor wouldn't you install a new clutch no more expensive than they are. My 74 is showing 47000+ and to my knowledge its never been rebuilt. Basicley the bike runs but needs a clutch, front blinker covers, chain and sprokets,, Tires,paint and a good cleaning. What would you offer the guy for it?

WAY less.  1K is way too much unless you can turn the key and ride it home.

Thats what I think as well. I'm thinking about offering $400 but have an extra c note with me just in case. I couldn't see more than $500 max and I'm not sure I want to pay that. What do you think?

Keep looking.  They are out there.  Forget that guy.  He's thinks his is something special, which it is not.

What is the overall condition of the bike? Rust bucket?? clear title???

Running K5 with other problems, goes around $700 - $1000 around here.  Hard to find a cheap 750 anymore...

Its not a rust bucket by any means. I've seen worse go for more on e-bay. The tank is spotless inside. I did get to look at it. The engine is clean. It has a clear title. It even has the origional switch underneith the tank. The left side cover has a small 3 quarter of an ich crack. Imagine that huh LOL. The chrome still looks good. The fact of the matter is though yes its a running bike but it can't be ridden because of the clutch issue and with what the front tire looks like I would be affraid to go much faster than 30mph anyway. I payed $500 for my K4 and that was from a family member, although I knew what had been done to the bike. I think I'm mainley a bit nervous about it due  to the fact someone I don't know has been in the engine and there is a lot of people that can tear one down and put it back together but we all know the trick is making it stay together. I'm probably going to make an offer but I don't think I'll go over $500.

If it has presentable runnable stock paint, seat in fair shape , stock pipes in good shape, & nice guages..add 4-500 to what you said you wanted to pay.. if the clutch is all it needs.. bring a clutch to put in before you pay the full amount...
