What is this?
« on: October 20, 2010, 11:01:12 PM »
This may be a stupid question, but this I just bought a '77 Honda CB 550 F and it had a giant fairing on the front.

The first thing I did was take it off.

Underneath was a giant mess of disconnected wires etc. etc.  and I noticed this dangling.

Like I said, this may be a stupid question but i've looked around the site and cant figure this out so if anyone could let me know what this guy is I would really appreciate it.

Is it dangling from wires?
Does it make noise when you push the horn button?

OMG!!! It's an FBI tracking device!!!!
Seriously, it looks too small to be a horn, and too large to be a turn-signal beeper. No idea what it is...

It looks like a turn signal warning beeper. Does it beep when they are flashing?

With such a big arse fairing on the bike it is probably a backing signal like they have on fork hoists  ;D but I'm going with the FBI tracking device. :D
I think the thing I most like about motorcycling is the speed at which my brain must process information at to avoid the numb skulls who are eating pies, playing the ukulele, applying make-up etc in the comfort of their airconditioned armchairs as they make random attempts to kill me!!!!!!!

How about a pic of the backside? Is it a tiny speaker for a radio set in the fairing??

Maybe part of a aftermarket alarm system?

there was no radio in the fairing, so thats out of question.

Unfortunately my battery is completely dead at the moment and ill be getting a new one either tomorrow or friday so im not 100 % if it is the signal buzzer, that seems to be the most logical answer right now.

but here are a few more pics of it, it is hanging from a brown/blue and all black wire...

here is the opposite side...

From the back, it looks like the turn signal beeper but from the front it looks like the perforated metal cover has been removed

Yeah, the brown wire points to something with lights, per Honda standard color codes. BTW, welcome to the forum!!! ;D

Those are the colors for the signal buzzer.  I know cause I removed mine then later went "what do these go to" and had to look it up!  I could be wrong but looks like a aftermarket warning buzzer spliced into the stock wiring.

It's the stock turn signal buzzer with the metal grill removed.
