OK sorry for the delays here in answering questions...back in Denver now, headed to Atlanta in a day or two..anyway..lets see..where to start....

As far as a class goes..with the little CB360..since i made the engine 423cc i would have to run in the 500 class as it goes from 350 then to 500..there is no 400/450 category that i could see.I really didnt pay much attention to the existing records as this was more of a pleasure/no pressure trip to have fun and see what this whole Salt flat thing is about..im pretty sure i could find a category to run in but i would have to do alot more to the bike..i built it as a street bike and wasnt even thinking about Bonneville at the time..hell..i just wanted to get the damn thing together to see how it was going to work out..i had Ross pistons make me the pistons to my specs and did all the work myself(besides the machining)..Megacycle cam,cb350 racing valve springs,32mm carbs..homemade pipes..etc etc..didnt run it on a dyno..spent a evening swapping out jets and running it up and down the road checking jetting..till i saw a cop..i figured that was a good time to stop..ha ha.

But yeah,i was pretty damn tickled with the results all and all and im calling it a success..

Well done Joe, I figured it must have been more than just a CB360 to run that speed at altitude.
It's a place I would like to see but as far as riding there...think I'll stick to the concrete untill I have a bike that can't run its top speed without the need for a longer runway.
We are restricted to 1.9 and 1.7 mile runways but they are long enough for 2 way runs over the measured kilo for my little 175 class Honda. I'm hoping to have it out next year if all goes to plan.
Have you ever thought of running at Maxton over the standing mile, a bit nearer home for you and the bike don't get covered in salt ;D

Sam...
Yes i know about Maxton..matter of fact theres a meet there in a few weeks..
This whole Bonneville thing came around because i have some friends out here in Denver that have been a few times and we all just sorta hooked up and went out there.
Besides..its Bonneville..you know?
Just one of those things..to say you went..you did it..personal gratification..and the thought of being able to go as fast as you can for miles holds a certain appeal..to me anyway.
Im not a pro rider..just a guy who started out wanting to build a little Honda that turned into a project that turned into..this.
I reckon it was all in the timing..i have to go back to work soon(im a contractor in Nuclear plants)..so i decided what the hell lets do this.
Who knows when this sort of opportunity will come back around again..its left an indelible memory lodged forever in my memory and you cant put a price tag on that sort of thing. If i never go back i will always remember that i really did this and can prove it..to me thats the important part..

I used to roadrace a long time ago..just ask your pal Bill Benton..we have known each other a long time and worked together too..
I would do this again no problem and am just tickled to death with the end results,it was worth every penny, every hour spent on the bike, every mile driven.
Absolutely..
hey did i mention i am in the BUB 100 and 150 mph club now?
lol

take it easy..Joe

I walked by the Rolls guys pit,the Triumph top end was off and i guess they had a problem with something...to bad because he obviously knows more than a thing or two about Landspeeding..i didnt wan tto take any pics when the man was working on his machine which didnt appear to be cooperating, but they didnt seem to be all bent out of shape either..
I bet he will be back with a vengance next year..im going to try myself with some new ideas to impement this coming year..already scheming as a good little SOHCammer should..
reckon we will see how it turns out then!

Tom Moeller is a retired aircraft engineer.......he built that Trident after playing with the motor for more than 20-years. I got to know him at the 2009 BUB trials.  Very nice and approachable. He takes the Rolls apart for a thorough cleaning every winter.  Tom is also a roadracer and usually competes on a CB160 at the Bonneville GP.

I have asperations but short of $$$ to take my Triumph Cub project to Bonneville. Yes, it would be nice to compete on a CB750 SOHC but hard to find a class to set records.  If any of you ever go.........I suggest a dualsport for a pit bike. Its about 5 miles from the pits to the starting line on the high-speed run.  Watching (and helping) the crews get the bikes to the starting line is very entertaining.

That explains the fairing. I was there last year and I wish I had taken some close-ups of it.
