75' CB750F rear caliper rebuild kit????
« on: August 17, 2008, 07:50:31 AM »
I have a bad seal. Does anyone know where I can buy a rebuild kit for the 75/76 Rear Supersport calipers???  I was wondering the the same year goldwings used the same size caliper pistons

Try www.bikebandit.com.  I think they have a kit listed under OEM parts.  Look at the rear brake schematic, I think it's listed as a caliper kit.
Here today, gone tomorrow.  Make the most of today!

Just wonering if anyone knows if newer kits will work for a CB750 1976 SS?  I've been looking everywhere for rebuild kits but know one has them for a 76.  Will GS1000 kits work?  Does anyone have any info on rebuilding 76 brakes? I'm guessing everyone with a 69-76 would need to rebuild eventually.  Where are these darn parts hiding?

There is no problem finding the 2 identical seals required but there is no "kit" I've ever seen and I've had the bike 34 years. I just bought 4 last month and shipped 2 to OZ. I'm at work so I don't have access to the part number but be sure to order by part number. Not likely a dealer will have it on the shelf. And yes, the rear caliper is the same as the 75/76 Goldwing. If you ever need to replace the caliper search under 75/76 GL1000 on EBay. Much more abundant. Pistons can be found if really needed but be ready to pay out the wazoo for 2.

Let me know if I can help you find anything. I'm on top of it big time with all the parts I have researched and bought from dealers or NOS on EBay.

While the internals may be the same I don't think the caliper body itself is the same.  It mounts on the left side on the GL among a few other differences.  The rear master cylinder is almost identical and may be adaptable to the 750F.  As others have said the piston seals and master cylinder rebuild kit are separate items.  There is not enough room to get both pistons out at the same time.  Instead of splitting the caliper I used a small c clamp or a small piece of flat bar across the piston and two c clamps to hold the outboard piston in place and then removed the inboard one.  Put in the new seal and use the flat bar and clamps to push the piston in place.  Bleed the system and reverse the order to do the other one.  The clamps have to be small as it is a little tight.

Yeah, that seems to be the case. The caliper part numbers are different. I stand corrected.

All of the internal bits are the same as the 75-76 GL1000's, caliper and master cylinder. The caliper bodies are different. I got the three "o" rings and the pistons for the caliper, and my master cyl. rebuild kit through my local Honda shop...

Thanks for the info.  What about the front caliper?  Are the seals and piston the same as the 75 GL1000?

Nope. I've been lucky where my pistons have been in good shape, and I get the seals from the Honda shop, under a '75 750F, no cross-reference needed.

Just went through the rear caliper on my '77 CB750F.The piston seal was in poor condition and needed to be replaced. I'm also working on the brakes on a '76 Guzzi LeMans which uses Brembo F-08 calipers. I had already ordered up & replaced the seals in the Brembos & decided to hold onto the old seals since they seemed to look fine. The F-08s use 38mm pistons, same diameter as the Honda, and the piston seals are identical in ID and cross section. I'm glad I didn't throw those old Brembo seals away!

I am a bit sleep deprived, but I was wondering what the conclusion came to on this? Should I be looking for gl1100 rear rebuild kits? Also will a bleeder valve off 75-76 gl1100 fit the f1 rear calipers?

There is no kit but the individual seals/boot parts are available.  Two piston seals, boots if needed, and there is a small o ring that you need if you intend to split apart the two part caliper.  It is not necessary to do this to change the piston seals.  The rebuild kit for the MC is also available so there is no need to try use something else.  I would guess the bleeder valve is the same but just cross reference the parts on the BikeBandit website to check.
