OEM GL1000 rotor bolts have thinner heads.  8)  RR

What year rotor bolts should I be looking for? I have found some off a 81-82 but nothing earlier then that. You think these will work? By the way I found it all on ebay.

I purchased SS bolts 10mm longer than the stock 550 ones.  Put the head on the speedo side, and they cleared the speedo (just!).  Lots of room for the nuts on the other side.

Do you remember where you ordered your bolts from, and the exact size?

Just trying to get all my parts together and hopefully knock out the mounting of the rotor and the centering of the caliper all in one day.

Dont think I will get to drive it this year with the dual setup, need to save and save for the ss lines.

I got most of my SS bolts from http://www.inoxgrp.co.uk/.  John sells them as kits, eg front end / engine / chassis, and will add / subtract what you need.  When I ordered, I just specified that the disk bolts be 10mm longer than what he normally supplied.  Arrived at that by measuring disk mount thickness, which was greater than 5mm, so added 10.  Figured I could cut them down if needed, wasn't. :)

No need to go to the UK for fasteners! Check industrial supply houses like Grainger and McMaster-Carr.
Don't fix it if it ain't broke!

If you have the stock lines to run to both calipers, go ahead and use them for now. With duals, you will have 1/2 the hydraulic line pressure for the same stopping power, so the "spongy" feel from the rubber lines is very tolerable.

Agreed you can get SS fastners from a number of places, but those come with a 'mill' finish.

All of mine were either electro polished, or buffed.  I priced out buying regular stuff, and then having them electro polished.  Could find bolts, but not everything in one place.  And couldn't find a good electro polishing source at the time.  Have now, so will look at the bolt situation differently for the next build.  That said, John's product is show quality out of the box (including the washers & nuts), but you pay for that.  Shipping from the UK was less than similar packages have cost from the USA. ;)

Mine worked fine this way, as well.

8 mm X 110 mm long.  Bought them here: http://www.metricsunlimited.com/

You can use 5/16" bolts X 4.25" long.  They're only .003" (.06 mm) smaller in diameter , not much looser.

Final question, what speedo drive are you using?

My drive and drive plate are from either my 77 or 78 550s.  Just used the better parts from both.

Still reading up on this. Looking at doing a duel disk set up on my ride. I currently have GL1000 forks on the bench and a complete rebuildable caliper, lines, mounts, handle for same set up.

I would like to use my 1975 CB750 K8 front wheel and just add or swap out to GL1000 rotors.

Is this possible?

Oh yea, the bike is a 1978 CB750 K8
I do tasks the most difficult way. My life is interesting.
