« on: October 02, 2010, 12:42:22 PM »
Just wanted to say "hey" to yall.  Been building my '74 for about 2 years now and finished it last night.  Took her for a ride and everything semed ok.  Went to a friend's house and was covered in oil...  Tank vent line puked all over me.  So I found you guys and figured I'd log in.

Welcome to the forum!  I spent quite a bit of time around that area, so I know Murvull (that is how we said Maryville in Sevier Co.) pretty well.  Great place for rides, especially up US129...

So not a local to Mavul?
Too bad about the HD giving you grief, but K-town to Sturgis is a long ride so you gotta giver her a little slack   ;)  Did you get your CB sorted out?

Welcome, and don't be freaked out: There are two common causes of oil puking out of 750s:
1) It has been over-filled. The oil is held in the tank by a check valve. These leak the oil out of the tank over time, so if you check the level after the bike has been sitting, it appears low, and you add oil. After the bike gets started, the oil in the sump gets pumped back into the tank, and it overflows out the vent.

2) The drain from the oil-separator built into the oil tank (the lower spigot on the tank) is not plumbed to the spigot at the rear of the transmission.
Don't fix it if it ain't broke!

Thanks Cranky.  I registered after sitting in the background for quite some time on this and other forums.  Everybody seems nice enough, and there are the "know how" guys.  Which is good.

Pictures man...pictures..... ;D

Welcome from another Tennessean. I am over in Middle Tennessee but visit East TN very often. I have a number of friends over that way and my Godparents retired to Maryville.

If you have not taken a look at EastTNriders.com go over there and poke around. Bunch of local riders that are always getting together and helping each other out. Has a bit of a 129 slant but there are a bunch of woods, dual sport, cruiser, track day riders, and even a few vintage bike guys to go along with the sport bike riders.

By the way you headed to the Barber Vintage Festival in Birmingham, AL this coming weekend? It is a nice ride out of the Knoxville area down there. A number of us from the forum will be there hanging out. It is a must see event and the Museum is a must see as well.

I almost went to work for an MRO facility in Maryville but was scared off by the way the airline industry seemed to be in constant shake up. I decided it was not worth the risk to leave my current position and move.

The pods alone will make it run worse, you will need to re jet and probably move the needle into a different slot and unless you have a bit of work done to your engine the stock airbox is by far the best form of filtration for the carbs.
