breathers
« on: March 03, 2006, 01:29:41 AM »
I'm about to put back together my K2 after engine work, and have a query about the routing of the breather tubes. Do the breather from the cam cover and the one from the top of the oil tank both just go to the back of the motor and vent to the ground? And then the one from the bottom of the oil tank goes to the back of the cases?
I'm so excited I can't think!!!  ;)
Peter.

Not sure about the K2 I only have experience of the f1 550. The breather from my rocker cover goes to an intake in the bottom of the air filter box. I'll try and find a picture .

Try this site to see if you can find your year model.

http://www.crotchrocket.com/fiche_select.asp

This is mine

http://www.crotchrocket.com/fiche_section_detail.asp?category=Motorcycles&make=Honda&year=1977&fveh=2944

Again this is the F1 and here the breather tube (18) connects throught the connector (24) to the bottom of the airbox.

Hope this helps. if not someone with a K2 will read your post. Best to advise what year your machine is.

Is there some trick to get this site to work? I pull down "motorcycles" and the same page seems to just come up again.
How did you initialy get your model to show up?

Just gave it a try, don't know if it's a trick exactly, but start at the top drop-down. When you select something, the same screen comes back, but you now select from the next menu down, etc. Eventually, it brings up a part diagram, but you can change the part you are looking for. Hope this makes sense and helps.

One other thing. I ordered some parts from them recently, one was the stopper valve for the oil flow to stop wet sumping which mine does over time. I've been trying to find this part for almost a year. I thought I had it this time with this order, but they seem to suffer from the same problem as Servicehonda. Their inventory says they have it, but they really don't. I did receive a long distance call from them informing me though, so that much is good service.

Seaweb,
Just as Bob says. Other tan that seems to work fine for me.

Bob, thats helpful info about the service. Haven't tried them myself for parts but I thought the microfisch thing was an excellant tool.

Cheers

Thanks for your interest guys - we ran with both the cam cover and oil tank breathers going straight to the ground (local Honda dealer thought this was best too), and at this stage all seems well, although it's only been run in the garage, not on the road yet. But there didn't appear to be any problems - at least it's running!! yeeha.  ;D
There is a vent on the air box that I suspect should be connected to the cam cover hose, but the air box is a later model than the bike I think so didn't bother - anyway will see how it all goes with a few runs on the road.
Cheers!!

Peter,

I may well be wrong but I don't think that the rocker cover breather not being connected to the air filter box is a problem. I ran my bike for about 9 months after I bought it with it not conected. As far as I can tell it is a recycling function.
I only discovered it should be connected when I opened the airfilterbox to discover that it was completely empty. Dave silver spares were very helpful in telling me what should be in there and about the breather tube connection. It helped clear up the mistry I had of a very small greyish cloud immision from the rear of the engine that I could never quite work out where it was coming from. It was the breather tube doing its job.
