Vacuum leaks galore - fixed.
« on: September 18, 2010, 04:57:45 PM »
I took my carbs a part for cleaning this past week. Thye actually looked pretty good but I cleaned everything and replaced o-rings and gaskets. Then I took the intakes and boots off. The rubber looked good a tiny bit of surface cracking but they are flexible and thick so I will keep them for now. That;s the good news. The O-rings were shot! brittle, pieces missing, no wonder the bike wouldn't run without the choke off. Also thanks to the PO one of the vacuum ports was stripped and cross threaded. Re-tapped that and put in some new o-rings I bought for tappet covers, cleaned up everything. Put them back on hte bike, installed the carbs, put the plenum back on. Noticed the boots are pretty cracked and split. I will be in the market for better ones. I put on the air filter box and noticed it's for a cb550F. Thatnks PO! I jerry-rigged the filter a bit and tried hard to block all air leaks. We will see. It started raining and I didn't get a chance to start it up.

Also when I pulled the idle jets there are 2 missing springs! I know The setting prbably won't stay put for long and I will need to find some but where? It's for 022A CB550K carbs.

Getting this thing started is getting close!
