Hi Jon, my oar might be broke but I'm not quite pennyless.
Everything I earn goes into racing, be it for myself or others.
My street ET project with Mike and Bill might be at the lower end of the drag racing scale but at least I am still racing.
To build a top fuel bike costs in the region of £80,000 and running it for one season costs about the same, money well beyond my reach.
As well as the street ET bike, I've been running the RS175 in land speed competition and my old Honda Benly in classic/vintage events.
The good thing about this sport is the lack of class distinction, most top runners will even help one another even when competing in the same class against them irespective of the outcome of a race.
Although we knew one another through the internet, I first met Ian King at Valdosta a few years back. Since then he has pointed me in the direction of nimonic valves suitable for my classic bike and pointed me in the direction of a local company that could supply me with ceramic coatings for pistons for the RS175. The said company has since become one of my sponsors.
Long live the KING.
Sam.
