CB550F Mac muffler
« on: September 20, 2010, 02:48:35 AM »
I did my first long ride yesterday on my reassembled '76 CB550F.  It now has the stock 4 into 1 headpipes along with a MAC muffler.  I was surprised at how much I liked the sound of the MAC.  Not too loud, yet a throaty sound, better than stock.

I've got that same muffler on my CB400f, but I took out the baffle and replaced it with a kerker 2" baffle and I am IN LOVE with the way at sounds!

That looks good but this thread is worthless without audio! [kidding].

My 550F came with a differant Mac muff than you have, I didn't like it and found a stock muff.

Hey I have the same bike and was wanting to try a Mac muffler. Did you have to do any carb work or did it work well just on it's own?

The jetting is pretty close to stock.  When I took the motor apart, cylinders 2 + 3 showed some signs of overheating.  I changed the main jets on those two cyls to 100 (98 is stock).

The needles are on the stock settings, 4th notch from the top.  The air screws are currently at 1 turn out.

Oh yeah, I am running a UNI stock replacement air filter.

So yes basically the MAC muffler doesn't require much (if anything) in the way of rejetting.
