When I had a Jeep Wrangler, we all waved to each other.  There was absolutely no discrimination.  Jeep drivers are cooler than motorcyclists.  Oh, but those damn Hummers....

i have a first Generation 4runner and we do the same thing.

I was off motorcycling for about 15 years--got back into it 5 years ago.  Seems to me fewer riders wave now then years ago.

Scooter riders--there are many more of them around now it seems--seldom if ever wave back.  I keep waving :D.

For me,  I don't initiate a wave in a braking/acceleration zone for stop signs/lights,  sweeping curves,  or in an area too congested with stop and go traffic.  I'll do a wee head nod in the oncoming riders direction.

My daily cage is an 88 BMW 325--for the past few years I've been getting waves from fellow e30's.  In Queens/Astoria other e30 drivers will flash highs, and honk.

I ride a rashed-up black FZR600 with a chopped muffler.  People on standards, duals, old bikes and crotch rockets will generally initiate a wave.  Harley riders don't usually initiate but will wave back when I do.  I'm on what's technically a crotch rocket but I wear actual gear, must be confusing.  The FZR is kind of a border-line bike too.  It's got a relatively skinny rear tire and the tail's not pointed 4 feet in the air.

When I was in IL, you ride on the small roads in the corn fields and some people in cars will wave to you.

I used to drive 240sx's quite a bit and they do the same.  I would say its a sports car thing but I drive an FC RX7 now and don't get any love from other 7/8 owners :(

I had a 240sx and no one I came across on the road that had one did anything that I can remember.  Then again, around here, most 240's were old beaters.

I brought it into the student autoshop one night.  One of the older guys there heard me coming and made some remark about why do I have to go and put a fart-can on it like everyone else driving a cheap import.  I said, I did no such thing: the muffler fell off and I'm here to put my new exhaust on.  ;D

Know who I always wave to? KIDS! They love it! There are these two little boys that live out in Stevensville (south of St. Joseph where I live) that will always RUN! to the road to wave at me. I love it and it's probably the coolest thing ever for them to get a wave back from a guy on a motorbike. :)

I've noticed that this season too, I can remember how cool it felt to get a wave back from a rider when I was small.
Every chance I get I'll wave to kids who seem interested, I love pissing off the 'helicopter parent' types.

YEAH--a lot of kids around here will yell and wave--this is HD country,  anything else seems exotic I guess.  Gotta wave back.  Though I get a lot of early teens gesturing for me to wheelie (lean back while twisting their wrists back and forth)--at least I hope it isn't some new rude gesture I'm unaware of....Hmmmm. ;)

The only time I don't give the wave is when there is a median between me and the other riders, I'm at a stop with the clutch pulled in, cornering and focused on not wrecking or when I didn't see them.
HD riders wave at me on a similar percentage as sport bikes so I don't judge. We're on two wheels and that's enough for me to feel we have a common ground.

The only exception to the rule is when my dad let me borrow a Harley and we road to Sturgis. It's gets to where there are so many bikers you would never stop waving so everyone just stops the wave all together. The funny thing is after we left Sturgis nobody waved for about 500 miles. Then, I saw what I can only assume was somebody who didn't attend Sturgis, they waved. After that the wave was back on all the way home.

My first time ever waving was 3 years ago about, I took my mom's roommate's Sportster for a ride and saw this dude on a new Indian looking super hardcore.  This was in California, so I'm sure he was on his way to Starbucks.  I'm on this lil Sporty (setup for a 5'5" woman) with a peanut helmet on looking super dorky Im sure and gave him the wave as I pulled through an intersection.  He waved back, and I was all stoked haha.

I still maintain that Harley riders don't wave cause they are scared to let go of the bars....

Hmmm

If he was holding a big sign saying BIG SALE TODAY ONLY UP TO 40% OFF, don't feel too special.  They wave to everybody.   :)

OK, pardon my amusement about this, but I just started riding a few weeks ago so the wave thing is kinda new.

Today Im riding to go eat lunch, going on a 2-lane road.  In front of me is a lady on a scooter, riding the shoulder letting people pass her on the uphill.  Coming towards me in the other lane is a guy on a metric cruiser with a windjammer.

Guy on the cruiser sees me and starts to initiate the wave, and right then I am about to pass the scooter lady.  He sees this, and starts pulling back his wave, probably not wanting the scooter lady to think he is waving at her.  So I return a wave and when he sees me wave back, he goes full wave again and continues on.

Thought it was pretty funny :)

I got a half waive / and nod yesterday, I nodded back as I was in the middle of a shift as he passed me.  Also someone mistook my 750 for a triumph at work today lol.
