CB550 - Stainless steel brake lines
« on: March 12, 2006, 12:32:44 AM »

Hello.

This is a bit of a long winded, multi-prong question - but, here goes.

I'm looking to install new stainless steel brake lines on my 78 550k.
I have also just about finished a twin disc install.

Would it be safe to get rid of the tube manifold that sits under the headlight?
I know it controls the brake light - but, I'm not too sure what else it does.
Could I just use a line splitter to go to each caliper?
I'm using a GL1000 lever that has the brake light switches in it - thinking of using that instead.

I am also looking to order the lines for HELUSA or Spiegler (or any other company if you have any suggestions.)
They have asked me for the measurements or better yet - send them the lines.
But - I don't want to send my lines and be out of a bike.
Plus, i want to eliminate steel line currently used on the stock caliper.
(So, SS line straight from manifold tube to the caliper.)
Would anyone happen to have these measurements?
Or is it wise/ok to use a tube and approximate the distance?

Thanks again .

This elimination of steel lines has been done to death on another post. In my opinion not a good idea but its your bike and neck. Why not just unscrew the stoplight switch and connect the second caliper line in there with a standard banjo bolt--that way all the parts are easy. Personally not happy with either a line splitter or a long banjo bolt at the master which are the other ways

Click the link above for the "beat to death" topic ...

I plan to use goodridge lines, mainly because of their availability, and I get a discount.
The plan is to go with a stainless steel line from each caliper(dual disc) , to a Y-fitting under the triple tree, and have a single
line going to the master. I am running a Buell master which has the tiny micro switch in the master itself, so I can ditch the factory
stuff.
