San Yang Motocycles
« on: September 22, 2010, 04:27:24 PM »
Been a while since I've been here, but I just came across an article of interest at the same time I got a message from the forum.

Has anyone else seen the San Yang Bikes? They look interesting, although it's all the same bike, really, just different body styles. It's the retro 1970s styling on one that caught my interest.

NOTICE: they're all 150cc, except for the Super Cub clone (50cc, but 312 mpg), so don't get excited. You should look up the Honda Super Cub if you don't know about it, BTW, it's a very interesting machine.

Here's the one that made me think of this forum: http://www.retrothing.com/2010/03/sym-classic-150-emulates-an-early-seventies-honda.html

Here's the Super Cub clone: http://www.retrothing.com/2009/04/the-honda-super-cub-returns-to-the-usa.html

The actual San Yang site is here (note the poor translations): http://www.sym.com.tw/eng/

They recently (last year?) started a partnership

Mate, The thing to be aware of with this Chinese stuff is spare parts and backup support.
A couple of years ago here in Darwin, and probably elsewhere too, there were dirt bikes and Quads and Buggies getting flogged all over the place at an affordable price and parents were buying them for their kids.
In recent times, these "Chinese Bargains" are in for some repair work and the cost to do that can be quite scary.
This mainly applies to brakes and driveline stuff that I've seen which gets flogged out first.
If parts aren't available locally, it's a modification and that costs dollars.
It also applies to these elcheapo Korean cars that simply do not last.
Just something to keep in mind.
Mick

I work in wholesale parts and get calls frequently looking for parts for Chinese stuff. Usually the place that sold it has vanished. They tell me "It's just like a Yamaha/Honda/etc". Yeah... a ripoff copy made of inferior metal and lousy build quality! Remeber that old adage? "If something sounds too good to be true, it usually is!" You get what you pay for!!!
