Some retailers (like Target for example) have started scanning DLs when someone buys age-restricted products: Booze, paint, compressed air, cold medication, etc.
No exceptions, everyone is scanned, no matter how old you look, or they won't sell you your stuff.

Jebus cripes! Think about that!
Think about what's on a DL!!!!

- my full name,
- my address,
- my county of residence,
- my height,
- my weight,
- my eye color,
- my sex,
- whether I need corrective lenses,
- whether I can drive a car,
- my drivers license number,
- the classes of vehicles I am licensed to drive,
- whether the courts have placed restrictions on my driving,
- my license expiration date,
- my organ donor status,
- a digital copy of my signature (some State IDs),
- a digital copy my fingerprints (some State IDs),
- social security # (some states IDs),
- and, my date of birth?

AND all this is tied to the credit card # used to pay??

Well, what about the people that don't have a DL or a state issued ID card?  It sounds to me that if they were to refuse sale of things to this person, they would be discriminating.  Where is it a law that says a merchant has the right to this information?  I think it's bullsh1t, and you don't have to give them a DL.

I see what you're saying, but conversely, that information is not shared with anyone scanning your DL. All the scanner sees is yes/no, of age/underage. I bartended in Dallas for a few years in college. Being in a dry county we used a Unicard club membership system as a loophole to allow the restaurant to serve alcohol. Always blew my mind how many people would get offended when asked for their DL or a unicard.

I'm sure there are ways people can rip off your information, but if you're that paranoid, think about what can be done every time you use a credit card. ESPECIALLY online.  Food for thought.

Just like the TSA said they weren't storing any of the images- LIE.

The problem here lies with the fact if sensitive information gets logged in the system and this information gets hacked by the wrong people. Bad things happen.

Yeah, I just got checked out by homeland security for my tractor trailer license.
Went to apply for a  job substitute teaching and te school wants me
to pay to have my fingerprints done again! (2 months after being cleared
by homeland security) 

Guess their driver license scanners don't work.

  I hate Target anyway; I never go there.  I go to local stores that got none of those high-tech scanners. Besides, if you go to one particular booze or hardware store, they will soon remember your name anyway. Some employees there even give me senior discount to save me some money though I am not a senior. Good to be a king.
