Hi All,
decided to have a beer outside after moving a bunch of
big rocks. Put the bottle down for a second
picked it back up and took a swig...
that's when the bee stung me on the tongue.  :-\

I have seen it happen 30 years ago, but this is the first for me.

This is the time of the year when they do that sort of thing.  It was probably a hornet.  They are the ones that fly side to side near your soda can and then land and then sting your face when you don't notice them.  Didi it feel like a hot rivet?

Don't feel so bad...20 years ago, my brother and I were cleaning out the shed in my mothers back yard. We were both drinking beer's and had both sat them down. My brother went to pick up what he thought was his beer, but instead it was one that he had left out there from about five years earlier.  :o
Besides the mouthful of rancid beer he also got a nice furry layer of mold and a multitude of dead insects. I'm busting a gut thinking about it as I type this. The look on his face before he spewed was priceless! :D :D

Now which would you rather have? I think I'd take the sting...

BTW:He hasn't left an unfinished beer laying around since!

There is a decent spider population in the basement of our house.  I learned quickly to "look before you sit" when using the toilet in the basement bathroom. :o :o ;D

I was out on a drive with the porsche club when I lived in AZ, put down my can of soda, took a big swig, then spit it out right into the center of the circle of the group.  They looked at me like I was crazy (I probably am), till I pointed out the big bee on the floor amidst the puddle of Dr. Pepper.  Almost swallowed that sucker whole...

Yeah, I had a lisp for a while as it stung me on the tongue.
Wife says I have always had a lisp, with a french accent.  ???

Interesting that a bee would be attracted to beer... Not much in there I can think of that they'd like in the beer, aside from water.  That said, this time of the year is the honey / nectar dearth (shortage) in North America, so they will naturally be attracted to sugar in any form, soda's included.

Keep your eyes / ears open for swarms this time of yes, too - swarming honeybees are GREAT to capture / keep and are typically passive due to their "journey" mode.
