clutch problems
« on: September 12, 2010, 07:38:29 PM »
i had my clutch cable shortened for my cb500. so i put it back together made sure the lever adjuster was all the way in and and made sure the adjuster at the clutch cover was all the way in. when i put it all back together. i cant squeeze the cable. i noticed two things. the clutch rod that goes through the case doesnt go all the way in. and also it seems like the cable length seems to be about 1cm shorter (not housing the cable itself) then it was before. any ideas?

Did you re-adjust the clutch?  The clutch adjuster is on the engine side cover just below where the clutch cable enters the cover.  The adjuster is round with a large slot in it.  The bolt next to it locks it in place.

so i got the clutch cable to free up by turning that adjuster, i can squeeze it all the way but it cant get it to really snap back. i noticed when i was in there the ball bearing didnt come rolling out like it does on my other bikes. something tells me the PO used a larger ball bearing and jammed it in there. i got the bike as a basket and as i put it back togehter am noticing parts missing and wierd stuff the last owner has done. this being one of them. would that ball bearing not moving cause the clutch lever not come back?

Mine does this too where if the cable is set too tight it gets stuck with the lever all the way forward and won't engage .. I solved by setting the cable as loose as I could and plan to put new friction plates in .. Thought maybe the precvious owner put in 6 instead of 7
