Well now you got to tell us.  What lengths?  I'm curious is all....
Factory security system was armed, front forks were locked, ignition switch was locked, kryptonite lock on rear brake caliper, canvas cover over bike was padlocked. Bike was parked on rocky driveway (not smooth surface) under covered carport behind thick, wooden locked gates. I was out of town when a neighbor called my cell phone and asked if I had left my bike in the carport. I said yes and she said the gate(s) had been left wide open in the back lane.
Local police know of a group of professional thieves who arrive in the dark of night, four or five of them (it was a 700lb bike) slip the bikes onto skateboard like dollies and roll them lock, stock and barrel into the laneway where a low slung trailer awaits.
I suppose if I had chained it to a wall or the building, they'd have simply cut it.
This project started in confusion and will end in disarray.

anybody install a gps tracker on their bike? That would be badass..you could make a bait bike with it installed in the seat foam or in the air box somewhere. Then personally fight crime (as much as anybody whos lost a bike would love to serve justice themselves), or utilize the long arm of the law!

thanks guys, Im just trying to pick up whats left. Worst thing is I have a 67' honda ca160 in the garage and they took a box of parts (full of the all the hard to find parts that cost an arm and a leg to get) but left the bike. So my only option is to sell it as parts now, because Id ideally have to buy another whole bike to get it running again. Ive been contacting all the local MC shops and getting the VIN# circulated. I always thought Id have this bike forever, I mean when I got it I didnt know a damn thing about motorcycles so this is the bike that REALLY got me into them. All the sleep I lost and hours I put into it is what really tears me up. How do you get over something like this? Do you ever find a way to deal with it? Can you ever stop scaring yourself thinking of the things you would do to the person who stole something that youve poured so much of yourself into? I dont know if I ever will, or ever really heal.

Sorry to hear about your bike.  I just got my first bike a few ago and I am very atttached to it  already so I know must be feeling very lost. We'll all pray that your bike somehow is found in one piece. Sleep well tonight if you can Brother.

I started noticing a lot of ads for these after my bike was stolen. I would love to have one on my other bike(s), just a bit pricey.

Damn man..... :( Sorry to hear that, I hate nothing more than lairs and thieves!!!
A friend of mine had his '05 Gsx-R750 stolen last Christmas at his gated apartment and he had the bike there since he bought it new....

Wish they still chopped thieves hands off when caught... ::)

'05 Gsx-R750...gated apartment

There's the problem.  No way I'd have a bike and not at least have it in the garage at night, on my premises anyway.  That's just too popular of a bike to not lock up indoors these days.

Stuff like this is infuriating.  I would never think of leaving a bike outside, but that makes you want to chain your bike to the wall in your own garage.  It's absolutely disgusting.  Not too long ago I experienced a bad event where my wife's parents' house was ransacked by a thief ring.  If you see somebody you've never seen before just strolling down the street, keep a close eye on them.  It's not uncommon for somebody to case a neighborhood like that, and that may be what happened to you.  Even if they did ride your bike out, they had to know it was there, first.  I think you were targeted.

I'm sorry for your loss, and I have to agree with one of the previous members:  Start over, and do everything better this time than the last.  Also, low-jack your bike! ;D

That is a fantastic idea.  I just looked at this on bestbuy's website.

"This universal GPS locator helps you keep tabs on your teen driver, wandering pet and more. Continuous tracking provides you with automatic location updates for your locator every 5 minutes for up to 1 hour."
I'm going to look into this and see if it's feasible.  Too many reports of thefts recently.  Then you have the luxury of taking the law into your own hands....

Just make sure "they" have a knife on them or something  ;)

My 550 was stolen out of my shed last month. The cops didn't seem at all phased by it. Never actually got a call back after I filed the report, until I called them over 20 times. I checked CL and ebay, even called around but it was not found. It really sucks, the feeling goes away when you start a new project. Just last week there was a b&e down the street, cops came real quick. Ended up tracking the guys to their own house on the next block. Had tons of stolen stuff there, tv's computers, power equipment, jewelry, and a stolen crotch rocket. I have to assume these are the guys who took mine. I'm sure the r1 was not their first theft!

I now chain all the wheels together in the shed, to a steel u shaped bar buried 3 feet.

Also picked up a nice scope for the .223 ;D

Sorry to hear that some scumbag thought it was worth more to them than it was to you.
For what it's worth the earlier comment about running an advert in the local paper is not a bad idea.
A guy down here about two years ago had his tinnie (aluminium dinghy) stolen and placed an advert. Got a reply from a not to bright local crim. who just "happened to be selling one for a mate",.
Dinghy recovered, crim dealt with by the constabulary as a small mountain of other stolen property was recovered from his place as well.
Hope you find man.

This just sucks in so many ways I dare not go into them.

For me, solving problems is something like a dog on a bone. I just can't leg go figuring out whatever. When my son was an early teen some jackass stole his moped-- from the school parking lot and he paid for it himself. We were on the case, talking to neighbors, etc.  Well, we tracked the sob down and went to court. The SOB had flipped it already and the "judgement" wasn't worth crap cause the idiot had no money. For what it's worth, there was some satisfaction in seeing the guy squirm before he judge.

But really, my point is, you should really try to figure out just who might have done it. Frankly, I don't think it's all that common unless you live in a really tough neighborhood. Point is, there's a connection somewhere between the perp and you. Maybe only a craigslist ad, but the SOB knew you had the bike in the shed, knew when to get it. Not like it was an arbitrary break in of a home.

Good luck and hope you have some good karma on this one. I'd be so pissed!!!!!

I'm kinda suprised with all the gun permits in USA that anyone has the nerve to steal "anything"! ;D
I think the thing I most like about motorcycling is the speed at which my brain must process information at to avoid the numb skulls who are eating pies, playing the ukulele, applying make-up etc in the comfort of their airconditioned armchairs as they make random attempts to kill me!!!!!!!

I'd bet the thieves knew about the ca160 parts somehow. I'd keep an eye out for someone trying to sell that stuff, and if you sell the 160, try to find out where the prospective buyers got their parts, and if they have the parts that may have been stolen from you.

This kind of #$%* really scares me, because I'm too open and start talking about my bikes with anybody, but I'm getting better about who I let in the garage.

Good luck, and hope you get your stuff back.

#$%* RICHMOND!!!!

Dude I am so sorry for your loss.
I hate the VCU area for that very reason. There are too many scumbags.

I live in NOVA and my sis goes to VCU so I'll keep my eyes peeled for you.
I'll write down the VIN and keep it in my wallet.

Again, this is heartbreaking and words cannot express my empathy.
