k1 black flakes in seats?
« on: May 21, 2011, 11:41:42 PM »
Are the fuel "T"s known for shedding material? Seems the 1&2 carb needles get hung up now and then. When pulled, there's always a black flake in them that looks and feels like plastic. I suppose it could be the fuel hose, but it's brand new. That leaves only the T between the carbs and MAYBE the fiber washers in the petcock. I bought them at home depot to replace the old disintegrated red ones. They look fine tho, and seem to be holding up okay.
(and yes, the fuel line is actual fuel line, not vacuum hose)

Probably crap from gas tank or petcock. Are you running an inline fuel filter? Carbs hanging-up can be frustrating, try greasing everything that moves, squirt WD40 etc. Sometimes slides don't fit the chambers if you mix and match carbs. The o-rings in the T's are not your common o-ring, they are a very specific size, fuel resistant, and VERY hard to source. Found them on ebay years ago as they are n/a anywhere else new. Once they start to leak or start messing w/ them,, you cannot delay replacing them. All fuel o-rings, washers, etc need to be fuel resistant, btw, some cheap o-rings, washers etc are not.

thanks guys. i have not actually messed with or mix and matched carbs. the seal at the T is fine. The tapered seal is on the 'dirty' side of the screen, which would catch pieces if they flaked. PLUS, if that were depositing material, it would affect all 4 carbs, not just the 1&2. Same is true of the fiber washers.
This stuff, once collected in a paper towel is not rust, that much I'm sure of.
