Topic: Yoshi Exhaust fits or doesnt on F1?

Can anybody tell me why they think a Yoshi Rep Exhaust wouldnt fit an "F1?" The Yamiya exhaust is listed as fitting both K and F models however the Motogp werks guy said that K exhaust wont fit an F bike. Also, are there any recomendations for aftermarket/performance exhaust for the early F's?

Header wise it should fit just fine. The sohc engine(750), from my knowledge, did not change dimensions for the header mounting.
You may just need to figure out something for the muffler mount.

afaik the yoshi fits K0-6 without a problem at the header.
You won't be able to use your center stand though, and I'm not 100% certain it will fit your rear mounts. You might need to use an insulated clamp?

edit: actually I don't even know if the yoshi HAS rear mounts. I'd still recommend a clamp though.

the header changed a bit for the later K7 & K8 but you can still make it work. you just have to use spacers/adapters or something to make it fit snug up against the header.

I don't know for sure but I think it hits the aluminum bracket for the rear brakes but I think it can be made to work.

The header will fit, the rear mount won't but is easily fixed. I would buy Carpy's "yoshi" pipe over the Yamiya pipe, Carpy's has the smooth bends that the yoshi had and is made by a guy that worked for Yoshi, the Yamiya pipe has harsh bends that are cut and shut, nothing like the original...You need tomodify the alloy bracket that mounts the foot pegs.

Modify passenger pegs? or rider pegs? I would be buying it from Carpy or the gentleman who used to be making the pipes for Carpy (ex-yosh engineer) since Carpy is using someone else now.

Passenger peg bracket needs to be modded,  and i would be buying of the guy that used to build the pipes for Carpy, he seems like a nice bloke and as you said, he was a Yoshi engineer...I want a stainless set but haven't worked out a cheap way to ship them to Australia......Yet...

Good thing I dont have passenger pegs! Mick, I asked the guy from motogp werks via ebay if it would fit a 76F1 and he replied:"sorry mate,f type exhaust don't fit 'k' models ...sorry about that." Which of course doesnt answer the question since I am not trying to put an F exhaust on a K model. So...You, Mick, are saying that without passenger foot pegs, you dont see a reason for it not to work?

I have an "F" model sitting in my shed in parts and as far as i know the rear pegs are on that alloy bracket aren't they  {not home now..will look later}, actually drop Carpy a line, he uses them on Fand K models...

The passenger pegs were removed bythe PO. I thought they mounted on the triangular part of the frame just behind the rear brake alloy bracket. Maybe its the rear brake bracket that wont allow the exhaust. I emailed Carpy to no avail.

This has been discussed on these forums before, i looked but could not find it. Speaking for myself, i would be quite confidant i could make them fit, i know that there is definitely something in the way but it isn't anything major. I am using rear sets on both my bikes so it isn't a problem. Go to Carpy's site and check out his pictures and see if you can see where it may hit, like i said, it should be easily rectified...

I thought the early k's had a different type of connection at the head for the exhaust. I want to say it was called the spigot type? Is it possible that's what the guy from motogp is talking about? Looking at the pictures motogp's exhaust looks different than mine, I have a '77 F2, I'm not sure what a '76 F1 looks like.

I haven't fitted a rear mount yet, the thing is so light it just seems to hang there.

Does anyone know where I can get the heat resistant Yoshimura badge/decal for the pipe?

I just ordered a set in stainless from the ex yoshi engineer that sells on ebay.  I am modifying my foot control hangers to fit.  I will post up some pics as I go.

I emailed Carpy via the address on his website, Motogp werks guy via ebay. Carpy had whole bunch of stuff on ebay last week, checked yesterday and it was all gone. Motogp had his two pipes on ebay from last week up until at least yesterday.

Knoll, Thanks for the Pics. Looks good to me. Did you have to modify anything? If the yamiya works then so should any Yosh repro.

Tweakin, Do you have the pipe yet? How do you know you will need to modify anything? Based on Knolls pics it looks like the exhaust clears the foot controls. Let me know how it works out.

Knolls clears but it has no rear mount, it will sit higher when mounted properly. I still don't see you having any problems fitting the Yoshi style pipe, If i remember correctly someone else had to do a little grinding to the alloy bracket  to make them clear..... I had one on my 900 Boldor and loved the sound of it....

You can see that it's pretty close to the frame in the upper photo, and pulled back in to clear the controls in the lower one.

The mounting won't change even if I added a bracket, it's butted up nice and tight and is rock solid when you hang on it. It's very light so I'm reasonably certain it'll be fine as it is and I note that Carpy doesn't use a rear bracket and his are longer so arguably place more weight on the header flange.

I bought mine 3 years ago before Carpy began making his and I must say his tail section is much nicer to the eye so I'd go that way myself these days. Mine was only $380 at the time or $479 landed in Sydney. Compare that to a Kerker.

No pipe yet, just ordered it yesterday.  I expect to have it by the end of the week.  I am 95% sure I will need to modify the aluminum foot control brackets (cutting off were the passenger pegs mount) on my F2.  For your bike I think it will work with very little modification if you remove the passenger pegs....I think.
