Parts, parts, parts...
« on: March 04, 2006, 08:14:44 PM »

Greetings.

Thanks to Bryan in the UK, I now have instructions on how to install twin brakes on my bike.
I have a 1978 550k, and i've been looking for a Speedo drive (part#: 44641-300-000).
I've contacted Western Hills Honda - and they no longer have that part.
I was wondering if anyone could help me out locating this part?
Or is there another substitute for this part?
Any ideas?

Thanks again.

Do you know of anywhere or anyone that might have one?

Hi Racer, I am fairly sure that that part is identical with the one used on the 250 and 400 twins of that era so a visit to the breaker yard may solve your problem. Best of luck, John.

Have you checked ebay?  I just did a quick search for "Honda speedometer drive" and came up with 50 results.  One of them is off a 1980 CM400T.  Not sure if that's the model oldbiker is talking about, but it's worth a look.

Try asking michel at hondavintage@gsig-net.qc.ca I bought one from him last year and he had a few BUT they were $38US plus shipping

Thanks to everyone....

Samcr750 - I took a look in the classified section - didn't see anything fitting the description, but i'll keep looking.

gordon - I took you advice and went to ebay and found the "1980 CM400T" part.

oldbiker - This is a pic of the part. Is it the same part you mentioned in your post that will work for my application?

bryanj - I just emailed hondavintage, hopefully they have another.

I'll keep everyone up to date on the search for the elusive speedo drive.
Hopefully one will show up soon.
If anyone has any other ideas/advice please let me know.

Thanks again.

Racer, there is some mix up here! The number you quoted in your original post '44641-300-000' is listed as a 'Retainer, gearbox' while the part in your picture is the 'Speedometer Gearbox' itself. Can we be clear as to which part it is you want, then we may be able to help. If it is the gearbox you want, then I can say with certainty that one from a cb250 will be OK as I've used one myself. Get back to us. Cheers.

Sorry.

The part I'm looking for is a speedo drive for the dual disc conversion to a 1978 CB550k.
The number I have is 44641-300-000.
I am following a list of parts I got to make the conversion.
I believe you're right. It is the "retainer gearbox i need.
Sorry for the mix up.
I posted the wrong picture. Plus, after doing some research, the part pictured could not have worked.

44641-300-000 - retainer gearbox - is the part that I'm having trouble finding.

Thanks.

In that case, the early twins used an identical part and this should give you a better chance of finding one at a breakers yard. If I come across one, I'll grab it for you. cheers, John.

Thanks bryanj...again.
I ordered the part from Michel as well.
You right - defiantly not cheap. $40 + shipping.
But, I finally have it.
Thanks everyone for helping on this.

I have this spare from my cb350 restoration. I'm afraid I arrive a little late. You should have used a more direct title such as "looking for a speedo gearbox"...
