start button / guages wired together?
« on: September 25, 2010, 11:32:34 AM »
anyone know if the gauges (brown/white) need to be connected for the start button to work on a 74 cb750? i removed the gauges (while doing a bunch of stuff) and everything seems good now that it's back together but no electric start.  just wondering if i need to check my other connections or if it's just the misssing gauges, like maybe the switch grounds through the same circuit or something.

thanks.

Does back together mean the gauges are back on? Even if not the four little light don't have any thing to do with start circuit I would look first to see if you left a GRD. wire off somewhere. Then start going through the start circuit I have a K8 I think they are not the same I will look at the K4 and get back to you.

thanks for checking. no the gauges are not back on.  doesn't look like a ground is missing, but i will triple check for sure.  the lights are wired separate and are working fine, i made my own led set up for that.  in fact everything else is working great, just the electric start is "off".  i will put the gauges back eventually, or at least one of them and we'll see.  i have a wiring color chart that seems to suggest that the brown/white wire of the gauges is somehow involved in the ignition circuit.

 anyone else have thoughts?

Does this bike have the headlight cut-off wire when the start button is engaged?  If so, the light wiring you have done may have disabled that.  Check your schematic online here or at oldmanhonda.com

i'll look into that.  i didn't do the initial wiring, so it's possible.  i honestly can't remember, but i kinda feel like yes the headlight shuts off at start??..

Will it kick start ? have you checked for power on both sides of the 15 amp fuse ? Turn your kill sw. back and forth a few times. If none of that helps report back and will start going thru the print. Has any thing but the LED's been change?
