1969 CB750 Basketcase

Hello all, and thank you for reading my post. This is a first, so please bare with me. Here is my situation. I am currently in posession of a 1969 CB750 SOHC basketcase.  Bike was last ridden in the early 1980's, then put in a basement for storage.  Some 15 years later bike survived a house fire, mostly water damage, while still in it's complete state. 8 months later bike was completely stripped down to the bare frame and cases, in preparation for an engine re-build.  Engine / trans. / carbs / need rebuild, frame needs new paint, need to re-spoke wheels, need new tire(s), need new chain / sprocket set, need gas / oil tank cleaning and new electrics etc.  Those are the main faults.  And while it is a first year model, the engine is not sand cast.  I just feel like a total restoration is not fitting, and even a basic re-build to make it roadworthy again, will be too costly in the long run.  Any suggestions or ideas would be greatly appreciated, as to further action that I should take.

Well if your not doing a full resto or even a moderate one, I imagine buy another runner and using the parts or just selling anything still worth a damn off it. Or you could turn it into art. Thats all I got  :)

I say rebuild it!  Even though it isn't a sandcast, it's still a first year 69.  Maybe not a complete nut and bolt restoration but a low budget rebuild instead.  It's always nice to see '69 survivors on the road.

Or.... you could sell it to me and I'll get it back on the road.  ( i had to try :) )

Stick the engine in your sand tracker!  :D

Thanks for the suggestions.  I guess what it comes down to is the amount of time that I want to put in.  My ideal plan would be to build a vintage dirt tracker, circa early 1970's, much like the one in my profile photo.  And just so you know that CB750 pictured is not mine (dang), and engine is actually riding in a custom flat track frame.  I would rather re-use the stock frame and get some bits from CycleX, like their exposed charging system (sweet). Just haven't seen that many CB750 flat track racers being built, thought it would be a little unique.

Most of the parts you have would probably be pretty special to those actually restoring these 69's.  Collectively, they're probably worth a small fortune...I'd say try to sell 'em and use the cash for a more complete project bike that won't cost so much to build.  If you're not trying to rebuild a sandcast bike to its former glory, pass her on to someone who will...just my .02

+1 on that. Resto by someone, anyone, would be a better fate for a 69.
