gas cap seal replacement...impossible...perhaps??? Need help.

I have been trying to get the new gas cap seal on my tank.  Holy mother....is there a trick...this thing is owning me right now?

which bike might be helpful...   :)

However, I didn't have a problem with mine.  Pull the old one out of the cap (I think I used needlenose pliers) and stretch new one on.

I make replacements out of thick. soft, leather I get from the Amish.  Just like grandma used to make.......... That all started when Custom Chrome and Drag Specialties started selling gas caps with seals that were not fuel resistant.  Stupid.

I man handled mine on a little bit ago without disassembling the cap.

DO a search -someone posted an answer to this a few weeks/months ago - involved removing the internal metal plate making slipping the rubber seal on much easier. I did my seal and didn't use that method - just wrestled with it and it went on.

If your seal is rubber then put it in hot water first, it will make it more pliable, just be careful..

you can unclip the centre out of the cap,looking underneath pry on the little pointed spring ends and the guts pops out,it simply pushes back in.
