1978 CB750F Super Sport Clutch Cable Problems
« on: September 23, 2010, 09:22:08 PM »
Hello,

New to the forum and proud new owner of a 1978 CB750F Super Sport bobber.  I purchased this bike in El Paso, TX and I am excited to begin working on it.

When I  was driving the bike home, it stalled on me and wouldn't go into or out of gear.  I diagnosed the problem to a loose clutch cable that wasn't actuating the clutch.  It especially came loose on the clutch housing end and would not tighten up.

Please refer to the picture below.  I need guidance as to whether this is the correct cable type for my model.  It looks like it is aftermarket and doesn't fit my application.  I know I should buy a manual, but right now I just want to fix the problem and get it home (currently at my parent's house).

Thanks

Dont worry about buying a manual if you search you should find one on this forum to download.
The cable look correct but im not near my 78f at the moment to verify. Dont know your mechanic abilities so dont be insulted but did you adjust the cable at the lever and at the clutch end. From the picture it looks like you still have room to adjust. Also you may also need to adjust the clutch itself.

Yes I tried to adjust on the lever end also. I turned the lever end almost all the way with and that had no affect. It appears as if the clutch housing end is not seating properly into the clutch housing. It is way too loose and wobbly. Plus turning the nut has no effect also.

If you could point me the proper procedure that would surely help me to get the problem fixed.

I would also appreciate help finding a manual to download.

Wrong cable. You need a new one.

Thanks for the help. I suspected it was the wrong one.  Any suggestions as to where I can get a new one at a good price?  Maybe even a steel braided one.

Sorry I sound like such a rookie, but it's my first cb750

If your sure it's a carb problem; it's ignition,

Cheap is right. You get what you pay for. If you have a honda dealer near buy and want quality go there. If you want cheap and fast spanner is right. Motion pro will work just fine but IMO is an inferior product.
