Hi all, does anyone know of anybody that will ship by sea from the US to Australia? I wish to have 2 pipes {4 into 1's} from California to Brisbane Australia and USPS and other US mail companies charge like a wounded bull.....Any ideas.?

Hey Mick

I've been making some enquiries about this just today and have hit a few brick walls so far.

TNT can Sea Freight 1 carton into Darwin from California for $530:00 AUD which is a bit steep but I was thinking afterwards that a few items sent together might be the way to go and then split up the freight which would make it better for everyone.

I'm going to give this DHL mob a try and see what they come up with and I think if we can get a consignment at least onto the East Coast of Oz somewhere, that might be the way to go.
I can get stuff up here into Darwin from Melb/Syd or Bris for about 60 bucks for something about that size and weight.

I'll keep you posted after I make a few more enquiries.

Mick

EDIT: DHL is out of the question. They only do Express Airfreight door to door.
$1116:73. NO THANKS  ;D
Maybe TNT might be worth thinking about and split the freight up.
I don't think that there's a much cheaper solution mate.

There has to be a cheaper alternative Mick, i import guitars from Japan and by air the cost 120 dollars for a single guitar, by sea they are around 40 dollars. I got a quote by another shipping company from Japan for a pile of guitar cases and i can't remember the exact price but for 1 square metre of space it was dirt cheap. Usually by sea it is really cheap because of the time involved. I will also let you know if i come across anything..  I know a couple of guys that import Hot Rod parts in containers from the US, i'll have a talk to them..

Jeez Mick ain't it nice to live in the hinterlands? Have you thought of having it manufactured locally or perhaps going to the Japanese fast bike people, I've seen a few of them in my peregrinations through the net.

If the package is small enough the US Postal Service is probably cheapest for going by sea.

Ah RR the point of my thought was going towards providing some one in OZ with gainful employment or the start of a small business rather than being dependent on overseas because at shipping prices quoted you would think it could done cheaper & better locally.

It looks like we might be snookered with the size of this.
The box size is 42"x 16"x 16" which is over the allowable size and that buggers us up.
Mick might have the right idea by chopping it into 2 bits.
I got caught on this size thing a while ago with an RC 4/1 that couldn't be sent without getting a bank loan to pay for the freight so I had to back out of that one.
The bloody madness is that I've just had a system flown from Japan for 140 bucks but it's gunna cost over a gorilla to fly something similar from the States.
Mick.

Same thing happened to me with a guitar i bought in the states on e-pay, had to pull out of the deal because of stupid shippihg prices. Japan has excellent shipping rates...Oh, i don't want the exhaust cut up, just not built, if i can get all the bends i can have it welded here...

Just simply out of curiosity mate, why wouldn't you just get it cut here.
It'll fit in a USPS box then.

I was thinking that i could fit it into a smaller box if i just got it in bits before it is welded up and then weld it up here..... ;)

Mate I honestly think that welding header pipes into a collector would be a PITD.
Either way, I don't know that there would be much of a saving freight wise. (If any)
If this guy has got them ready to go, a drop saw through that joint and the jobs done.
Just my thoughts mate.

Thanks for your input mate. Were you chasing an RC drag style pipe at some stage.?   I have a tranzac pipe off my old drag bike that you may be interested in, its almost the same style, its black and needs paint or chroming but is in very good condition....

Hi Keith, i have heard of Rod through my racing mates here in Oz,do you think he would make a Yoshi replica because thats what i want? The other problem with having things made here is that the prices are ridiculously high, i could buy 2 sets of stainless yoshi pipes made in the US for less than the price of a good performance pipe in Australia

Thanks for your input..

We spent several days with Rod when we shipped the Camaro down to the Salt at Lake Gairdner... lots of fun...

Rod has incredible talents... his shed isn't fancy but he has Mad skills at Metal smithing and pipe building...

Tell him you know me... it will tickle him...

Mate, I'll keep that Tranzac pipe in mind.

I've got 2 sets of old spigot type headers in good nic at home but without megaphones which I'd like to get made up some day to make them complete again.
I can't remember what brand they are but they were in abundance back in the 70's.
That was back in the day when you couldn't give away stock pipes and everyone was going weak in the knees over 4 into 1 systems.  ;D

Ahhhh, the good old days, most of my old Honda's had Hanco 4into1's on them, a couple had tranzac's and a couple of yoshi's....
I'll try and get some pics of the Tranzac for you...

Sounds good mate.
I'll get a few shots of these old systems that I've got here and see if you can ID ém for me.
It's p'ng rain here at the moment but I'll see tomorrow night if I can escape from work before dark or maybe over the weekend.
There's 2 without megs and one fully welded system with a different collector set up on it.
Geez I can remember that the old girl use to sound like Sprint Car with an unbaffled system especially at idle.
Hopefully, this Yamiya system should be here next week and I'm putting that on the Billet build.
That's slowly coming together and is sitting in my airconed office at work in various stages.
It's the best distraction that I can remember.  :D
