classic tires
« on: September 23, 2010, 11:56:16 AM »
I'm lookign for rear tires, 4.00 or 4.50-18, that resemble the old enduro style tires from the 60's 70's. I can find k70's and newer trials type, but not the tire I really want. Any ideas or manufacturers. May just go with the k70 on my bobber.

I don't know a source for you but are you sure you want "knobbys" on a bobber?

Those are "trials/universals". Not quite knobbys.

These are knobbies:

+1  Google Enduro tires and you see just what they are.  Really not worth a darn on the street.  They also wear out very fast on pavement.  To my eye, this is what a bobber should wear:

18-inch Trials-Universal tires from the late 60s are still around. That was the tread on the rear of the mild bobber '69 XLH Sportster used in the TV series 'Then Came Bronson'.  Goodyear, Carlisle, Dunlop, Barum, IRC, Perelli and others.  I have one on my '67 Triumph T100C.  I find most of them at swap meets. Ask you local dealer if they do business with DIXIE International from Ohio.  I get that tire tread in a 19-inch IRC brand and they are still wrapped and good.

These are my favorite Honda tire, you won't be disappointed.
This project started in confusion and will end in disarray.

The reason for the enduro/trials type is that i have a 57 BSA and my bro just bought a 54 BSA, both ratty, bobbed hot rods, sitting in a barn for 30 yrs,  type of bikes. And both had ribbed front with the enduro type rear. Also have seen other older bikes with similar tires. Guess thats what they did years ago. There were a lot more gravel roads around back then too.
