After I drained the tank I flushed it with water, then added 2 stroke oil and shook it around... but it still flash rusted...

Now the tank looks worse than it did... although this rust is a very thin layer.

I think what I'm going to do next is let it soak for a few more days, and have a full can of pre-mix fuel waiting...then drain the tank of vinegar and immediately fill the tank with fuel.

i tried the vinegar trick... I to believe it worked well... but no where as good as Evaporust... That stuff is the SH*****T!.  Completely changes the rust to inert..  quick flush and a spritz with WD40...   IMHO.

Yeah, you're supposed to clean the water out with WD40 I think. Mine did the same thing and I just put in some inline filters. ;) Lazy solution. This winter I'll do it right.

I'm thinking about draining the vinegar and then just filling it with pre-mix, shake it around, filter it out and refill it again... skip the water flush altogether...

We'll see, it's all experimental at this point. I'm learning from this moped, skills I will carry over to my next SOHC.
