New Alloy Cafe Racer Tanks in Production
« on: September 29, 2010, 11:51:16 AM »
Hi all

ive posted earlier in the year the build of my CB550 Race rep that i have been using on the road & for sprint racing

quick update all went well untill about 150 miles when the fibreglass tank started to leak, tried a few fixes but decided

none were good enough to risk the bike

ive found a great craftsman Tony who makes alloy vintage tanks, he has my fibre glass tank & is jigging up to make

a run of these in polished alloy

anyone interested drop me an email & i will pass it on to Tony info@superbike-bitz.com

i will post pics when its on the bike, link below to my bike build

keep up the good work Andy

ps - here is Tonys site have a look at the quality alloy tanks etc  http://www.holtworks.co.uk/

Is there an estimate to how much these will be costing?

Great looking race bike.
What fairing is that?
Where can a guy get his hands on one?

Cheers

Maybe he could make some hide-able oil tanks for the 750.  I bet a few here would dig that.
I don't have a motorcycle, sold it ('85 Yamaha Venture Royale).  Haven't had a CB750 for over 40 years.

Andy

I found out that the fairing is from Airtech, but I'm curious how you installed the full fairing on your 550.
Specifically drilling the holes for the points cover and alternator.

Also curious why you chose to cut it down to a 3/4 fairing.

Do you have a link to the detailed build?

Lots of interest.

Thanks

I wonder if it would be possible to make an all alloy 750K tank.....I have seen one before. I don't like tank liners and it would be  a good way to have an "eternal" tank.... ;)

Sorry to hijack but -

Sure - you could make an alloy "stock" tank...just have to have the funds.  An alloy tank modeled after the stock tanks wouldn't be too difficult.
If you really want one, I can put you in touch with my buddy - he's an artist when it comes to metal shaping.

Yep, I'm the kid that figured out how to put things back together...eventually.
