What after market carbs for a cb350?
« on: March 06, 2006, 07:02:01 PM »
Hi.

I have a 1970 cb350 (I know it's only a 2 cylinder but my other bikes a cb650!) that's in the shop. My mechanic told me that the rubber diaphrams between the carbs are ripped and totally shot and that Honda doesn't make them anymore. He told me that I can save him alot of time and me alot of money if I find out what after market carbs would work on this bike. Anybody had this problem? Any suggestions?

The reason I took the bike to him in the first place is because it kept stammering and only one cylinder was working properly. I changed the plug on that bad side then the OTHER side quit.

Thanks for any help.

Hey Deke, are you talking about the rubber diaphragms inside the carbs, that are attached to (what I've always called) the throttle pistons? If you are, if you'll check crotchrocket.com, you'll find them listed. Piston Set, Vacuum P/N 16022-287-014  Qty 2 $ 51.38 I don't know how mush you could spend but, it seems that they have them and incidentally, they have carbs also. Right carb 16101-287-054 & Left carb 16102-287-054 But they are $101.71 each. Just thought I'd throw you an option. Anytime you are wandering about a part, check this web site out. You might (or might not) be surprised. Later on, Bill :) ;)

Thanks Bill, I'll check those sites out.

As for the exact part, the guy working on the bike said " there's a vaccum operated slide between the carbs. There's a rubber diaphram in there and it's totally shot." He seemed to think that , since Honda doesn't make that part anymore, that we would have to replace both carbs and he would "rework the jets" to accomodate the new carbs. I think I understand him but not enough to be conversational. I still have my nose in my Clymers when it comes to doing anything on either of my bikes. It sounds great if I can just get the rubber part though. I'd rather leave as much of the original stuff in it.

Thanks again for the info.

Deke,
I think you might have misunderstood him. The carbs each have a piston (I think some call it a slide) that has a diaphragm on top of it and when properly sealed, use vacuum to raise the piston (or slide). But the piston is inside each carburetor not between like you're thinking. If you take the 4 screws out, that are in the top of the carb, you can lift the top off and you will see what I'm talking about. Check it out. Later on,  Bill   :) ;)

Man oh man. Crotchrocket says they don't have and can't get any of those parts. Jason who works there was super cool though and gave me a few sites to check out. If any body else knows where I might get a hold of these rubber diaphrams for the carb, or an after market set of carbs for a 1970 cb350 I'd be much ablidged.

Thanks.

Hey Deke & Greg,

Greg From ohiocaferacers.com deals with CB350s, check with him and see if he has any
parts or a source that has them, if 550ko doesn't have any. Other than that, I don't know so
far. If I happen upon anything, I'll let you guys know. Until then,  Later on,  Bill :) ;)

I remember someone saying other carbs would fit a CB350. Doers anyone else know?

I've had Cb 350 carbs that had good diaphrams, spring, new jets, and they never worked right!

The jet passages were clear and so weren the vaccum passages! But I suspect the slides of being some how damaged!

What other carb options would a Cb350 have?

Guys....thought i'd drop in on this one.

I dont know whats going on lately.....but, the OEM factory Honda parts are all coming up discontinued. I've been trying for the last week to get some parts....and it doesnt matter what kind of part I try and order....they all are coming back discontinued. I've checked with several different sources and i'm getting no where. Feels like someone has bought up the whole lot of old CB OEM parts.....what gives??

The stock Keihin CV carbs are great.....and will run perfect if properly tuned. If Jorge has a set of good used ones...that would be the best route. In order to run aftermarket Mikuni carbs.......you'd have to run 32mm and have a set of custom intakes made to fit them to the head and run new throttle cables. On my website...under tech tips....there is a link to jetting for the 32mm Mikunis, if you decide to go that route.

If anyone hears anything on what up with these OEM parts issues....let me know. I've got a CB350 that needs alot of parts, to get it back to together.

Later,
Greg
