I was a sculpture major in college.. mainly working in metal fabrication and aluminum/bronze casting. I was wondering if any motorcycle ever came with a cast aluminum tank. I ask because anything I can make a mold of, I can cast in aluminum. Even a gas tank.. I was thinking of trying to make (and maybe market) a polished aluminum tank for the CB750... problem is, is that cast aluminum is brittle.. you hit it with a hammer it will crack and shatter.. meaning it would not be the best thing for a street motorcycle... not even a race motorcycle... probably for show only... but was there ever a production motorcycle with a cast tank?

with a motor guard would that keep the tank from impacting if you layed it down?

There have been aluminium tanks- Hodaka comes to mind first, but as you say- cast aluminium is nuts.
Usually, the tank gets bent/dented when the bar end hits it, it lands on your knee, or you knock the bike next to it over.
Dude- your 8 layers are showing!
