How to route the K0 throttle cable?
« on: October 01, 2010, 03:20:57 PM »
I want to install the handlebars etc. and having trouble figuring out the correct route for the single throttle cable and where it splits to 4 cables. Does the single cable go around the left side of the steering head and under the cross member at the rear of the coils then attach to the splitter to the 4 cables from the carbs? It seems the cable is a bit short that way and may be better going in on the right side of the steering head. Pictures of a K0 without the tank on would be perfect.
Thanks in advance,
Cliff.

Can't guarantee this is correct as I'm the scond owner, but mine goes through the bar collector and then down the right side of the neck.

Hi Cliff...mine goes the opposite of Bob's. It runs through the collector and to the left side of the steering head. It connects with the splitter under the coils. That is how I found mine after sitting for 19 years in a garage covered up. I am not having any trouble with it being to short.

That's interesting, John. I had to strip and clean my carbs etc. and when connecting things back up, thiught I would try it around the left side, but it was tight and turning the bars caused binding so I returned to the right side. Go figure.  :-\

Interesting Bob...I should go turn my bars to the right and see if it binds? The only reason I put mine to the left is that is how it was when I got it. Might not be the way Honda had it? Don't know for sure...

What do you mean when you say "the collector"?
Cheers,

The collector is the big hole between the gauges that all the cables run through.

Cliff...on page 158 of the KO Honda shop manual there is a picture showing the throttle cable routing on the left side of the steering head as you are sitting on the bike. It is routed under the main wiring harness that passes in the area too.

The advice and the pic are correct.........but........the handlebars were changed a very small amount on later bikes to get rid of a 'binding' or cable-pull when the frontend was turned full to the right. I remember that was the case on my sandcast. It never bothered me.  Be sure your throttle sleeve is all the way onto the handlebar.  This was also true of the first models with the taller bars from K3 onwards. The angle of the bars was changed to reduce the overall length of the cable pull effect.
