75 CB550 Shock mount question
« on: October 04, 2010, 08:28:48 AM »
Hey guys, quick question, if you can help it would be great.  I'm stripping my frame to get it powder coated and there appears to be a rubber/metal bushing in the frame where the top of the rear shocks attach.
-Do you think I should remove said bushing prior to powdercoat?  If so can I just push it out with a brass punch?

- Is there aftermarket replacements readily available in case I mangle the bushing while removing it?

Thanks!

all rubber has to be out, or it will most likely melt out when the powder coating is baked on. This applies to all powder coating of anything.

The top mounts on mine are simply pins coming off the frame. Are you maybe meaning the bushes in the swing arm for the bottom mount?
As Brando said, they'll have to out for the baking, but I'm not sure that you won't damage the finish when re-installing.

A cheap puller is 2 sockets, a long bolt with a nut & a couple of washers. Put the big socket on one side, the other has to be very close to the OD of the bush. Put the bolt through both & tighten the nut to push the bush into the larger socket.

You are correct, its the lower mount on the swingarm, I must have been having a dumb moment.  The socket idea is great!  Thanks!  I'll be removing them before the powdercoat.  Any ideas on where I can buy new replacement bushings?

Not sure of your specific model, but this could be the go.
