Going to look at a CB400

Going to look at a cb400 tomorrow, it's missing seat, tank, and carbs (maybe?), guy says the motor turns over. And he has a bunch of other stuff that would go with it.

Says he wants 100 for it, it doesn't have a title. I figure even if I don't end up working on it as a project I could still make a descent amount from parting it out???



I'm thinking it's a good deal but....Let me know what you guys think

If it's a 400F mate, 100 bucks is ok, but if it's a twin, keep your money in your pocket...........  ;)

Look, if it's really clean you might make a few bucks, but the twins are of little interest to restorers mate, have no significant racing heritage, and were heavy and underpowered. Good plodding commuter bikes, but that's about it. If it looks like it's been left out in the weather and the cosmetic parts that are left look rough, keep your money mate, there are better bargains than this one out there. Cheers, Terry. ;D

The only way I would take CB400 twin, is if you pay me $100. If there was contest for the most uninteresting bike, it would be a strong candidate.

Here are some analogies to help put it into perspective, from my own personal experience.

CB400F is to CB350F as Corvette is to Camaro

CB350F is to CM400T/CM400E/CM400C/CB400T/Honda Hawk as Camaro is to Riding Mower.

I'd take an 80 or 81 CB400T Hawk or 82 CB450T Hawk anytime you want.  Great looking bikes, with a clear family resemblance to the CB750F/CB900F bikes, which, IMHO, are among the best-looking bikes ever.



And, 13-second 1/4 mile, 55mpg machines are nothing to look down your nose at, no matter how snobby you want to be.  :)

That said, this specific one sounds like a waste of time, what with so much missing and no title, but I'd take a nice one anytime...

I would totally pick up a 400 twin for $100.

I guess you've got to know them to love them.  :)
