Bullies on Harleys (rant)
« on: October 03, 2010, 06:29:47 PM »
Has anybody had this problem before? It's no wonder there's bad blood. Got a taste of it today. Luckily I rode the cbr, so didn't stay around long enough for them to really get their jollies. I wish they had those straight pipes where the sun don't shine. I know the kind of bike a person rides doesn't always make the person. But there's some real A$$holes out there. I did notice that riding in the middle of the lane tends to discourage them from coming alongside. i could hear em behind me tho, riding side by side and on my ass wayyy close. With the hard ass throttle blips when I had to slow down with traffic. And, yeah, they were for my benefit. Guess I was supposed to be scared. Just pissed me off was all. Makes me wanna treat their kind similarly. Had a good ride otherwise tho. Thank you Soichiro for the ability to leave dirt bags in the dust. ;D the 600 RR
rules! Rant off, and thanks for listening.

DH,

Load your info! If I'm close, this Harley rider will hang out with you and defend your ride! You buying the first round? #$%*s are #$%*s, no matter what they ride!

Seems to be some sort of snobbishness amongst the dickheads who buy a bike to look tough, I've got mates with Harleys and they are just as keen on Jappers and old American iron like Indians and Italian Guzzis.
I watched "WILD HOGS" again last night, it kinda reminds me of that. ;D
There is definitely a Harley "we're too good to associate with you rabble" feeling when you run into a bunch of HD riders but usually when the helmets come off the riders are older less violence prone owners.
Maybe I'm just lucky that they want to slobber over my ride and take photos of "Blondie" more than I do of their HD's. ;D
I always give people (even my prisoners) the benefit of the doubt at a first meeting, if they cross me that's their look-out.
You'll probably find the guys revving their bikes up behind you were trying to find a gear or settle their bikes into idle without falling off, CBR Hondas are wickedly fast (my boys got the CBR400RR) so more a case of green eyes behind you ha ha ha.............. :D
I think the thing I most like about motorcycling is the speed at which my brain must process information at to avoid the numb skulls who are eating pies, playing the ukulele, applying make-up etc in the comfort of their airconditioned armchairs as they make random attempts to kill me!!!!!!!

Never had any problems with Harley riders.  Some, but not all, of middle aged guys on their shiny baggers all festooned with chrome brick-a-brac  seem to have a stick up their ass but I just ignore them too.  Got nice compliments from a Harley rider at a stoplight several weeks ago when Vance and I were out for a ride.  Him on his nice 550 and me on the 750F.

In '07 our local Honda guys group went for our fall ride along rt 109 on the MA-N.H. border.
Along the way we stopped for some bike related malady at this clam shack place that was being patronized by a bunch of people on Harleys wearing colors. We kept our distance initially, but the Harley guys were so friendly and interested in the bikes that we ended up chatting and one of the guys took our photo.

Sorry you had a bad time!

Ah, sorry, since your quote was not of the OP, but another poster.

I don't think I've mistaken the sound of a shadow for a harley before, though.

I'm guessing he saw them, too...

That said, I ride with people who ride Harleys, and it seems the 1%'s here are nice enough, as long as you give them space.
No.

i have a little shadow and alot of people think it's a harley.   ??? ???  if they can mistake a little 600 water-cooled jap bike for a harley then i don't think they can distinguish the sound difference either.

but i was actually thinking about the bigger v-stars that are air cooled.  they look alot more like the harley's than the shadows imo

Plucking at straws HP, Harley's sound like Harley's.......and speculation sounds like speculation...... ;D

I never met anyone that didn't know the sound of a Harley if it passed by, they are the only bike on the planet that sound like that...

I have heard them also {friend has one} and they still don't sound like a Harley, they may to the unobserved but i know no one that would mistake a Jap cruiser with a Harley based on sound.....now looks are a completely different thing.... ;)

And then there were the single-pin crank Shadow 1100's that Harley sued Honda over because they sounded too-Harley.

Guys, hope I didn't offend anyone with my little rant. Reason for title of thread was because the dudes actually were riding Harleys.
It was the intimidation thing that bothered me. It was pretty obvious, and I just wasn't in the mood for it. And to be fair, I, like some of you all, have also been sought out by guys who ride H.D.s
Happens when I ride the 750 k5. Everybody remembers "those" from back in the day...So I got my panties in a knot yesterday. ;D Next time I ride, Ill have forgotten about it.

I think all that extra throttle usage is a Harley thing. Every bike show, rally what ever, they blip the throttle 10 times per foot of traffic. I think they like to hear themselves. Hey, if it ain't fast, at least its loud and shiny. A close friend is a Harley builder, we hang out at alot of shows/rides and one time he yelled at a throttle happy HD rider "if it runs that F'n bad, leave it home!" funny that he can't stand it either.

I've been in a similar situation with other riders breathin down my neck. I had a million ideas on what I would do about it..... I decided to make it home to my family, I moved far right and waved them by.
