Comstar wheel alternative
« on: October 03, 2010, 02:59:02 PM »
I have the stock comstar wheels on my 77 750F. It appears that the PO damaged them when he or whoever mounted the current tires. On one spot on each wheel, it looks like they used a pry tool and pulled the edge out about 1/8 inch. I believe when I checked the Honda manual it provided the specs on the wheels, and it was very slight as to the allowable tolerance, which these appear to be beyond the tolerance. It is noticeable when I ride. So, how hard would it be to switch to spokes? Anyone done it, and vendor recommendations sizes, hubs etc. to make the switch.

I'm researching wheels for my 76F. I have wire wheels already and plan on reusing the hubs. There are a couple F model comstar rims on flea-bay right now if you want to stay with the Comstars...

Not sure about rear hubs. I'd like to know if there are alternatives too.

The first model "F" bikes had spoked wheels with the rear disc brake...

The F model spoked wheels with the disc are much more commonly available used than the K model because the bobber and chopper guys don't want to deal with the frame and caliper issues of a hydraulic rear brake.
