Can this be fixed
« on: October 04, 2010, 07:38:02 AM »
Ok so helping the girlfriend and cleaning her carbs from a 88 yamaha radian for her (I love cleaning carbs and Im pretty good at it don't ask lol). Anyways they're pretty gunked up and while trying to remove one of the pins that holds the float in it snapped the tower that it goes into. It appears that it can be fixed. My question to you is can it with some sort of epoxy that is gas friendly? I know gas eats through some materials but I'm sure there's one out there that is ok. And yes I've checked eBay and such for a new set but they've all gone for too much. Or do you know of a set from a different bike etc that can be used as a replacement? Thanks for the help everybody.

As this has recently happened to me, I was discouraged from using an epoxy as they do still break down over time.

I've done it twice over the years using JBWeld, right off the cheapie-auto-parts-store shelves.  No failures yet...

I think il give the JB weld a try before sending them to GA for that micro laser welding. Thanks

One of the ones I did was JBWelding a broken tower, like it sounds like you're doing.  The other of mine was 'building' a tower out of JBWeld for one whose upper half of the tower had completely CORRODED away!!

Both worked.  But, in the case of the broken tower, I completely coated the thing with JBWeld.  It was ugly, but I somehow needed to provide some strength, so I just kinda slathered the whole thing.

Good luck with yours.

Be sure to use JB weld and not JB weld Quick, as there are differences. Also read throught he FAQ on the JB site, there are a few handy tips to be had there. http://www.jbweld.net/faq.php
