x-ring, o-ring chain

I'm using diamond chain and even with solid maintenance, the wear is significant. I'd like to try an o-ring or x-ring chain but worried that the extra width would be a problem. Any words? My scooter is a 1970 CB750.

I have used a Tsubaki Sigma O-ring - 16,000 miles and currently have an RK X-ring chain on my CB750K4 (installed last summer) - both have little maintenance and are excellent chains IMHO. 102 links worked for me with 18/48 sprockets.

In the first 4000 miles or so, the Diamond typically requires adjustment every 1000 miles. After that, they typically settle down to maybe once per year, in my experience. I installed a new one on my 750 two years ago, and once again it matched this pattern, predictably.

This presumes Honda sprockets: with EMGO/JT sprockets, the grit from the surface wear in their undercut roller valleys causes much chain wear until the sprocket settles in. Typically, the SECOND chain fares better on those sprockets, so long as it is the same type: a different chain will then induce a new wear pattern, starting the whole thing over again.  ;)

So, what is the absolute best chain for our bikes, i mean strongest best quality regardless of price.?

Hondaman - I've owned this bike since new and have always used diamond m/c chain. My records show replacement every 4000-5000 miles. I used to have an enclosed chain-case and an oiler which I used constantly. Now I'm using spray chain wax. I had a new chain on and within 4000 miles it was so unevenly worn it was scary. Went from tight to 2" play. Just put on a new chain and it's showing a little unevenness even before I ride the bike. I don't think it's the sprocket because the unevenness is in time with the chain length not the sprocket diameter.
Have you tried sealed chain? The new crotch rockets use them and people I've talked to say they barely ever adjust them - just squirt on some lube every few hundred miles.
Do you have a problem with JT sprockets? I was going to give them a try.

Tlbranth - sounds like you may have a problem elsewhere - 4000 miles for a chain is not natural (unless you are drag racing). I have used JT Sprockets with no problems for 40,000 miles (and a couple of chains ;)). Z1 Enterprises sell them I think -good price and fast shiping.
