AAAAGH! Inverted wheel syndrome.
« on: October 05, 2010, 03:59:02 PM »
So... started getting down to business on changing out my tires and realized that my rear wheel has the nut on the RIGHT side of the bike, not the left. This appears to be reversed from the manual. Can anybody tell me if this is ok? I'd like to just replace the tire and get riding while it's still warm.

Also, can't find the nut size on the forums. I'm going to wander the net but I was hoping somebody here could tell me.

I changed my axle so the nut is on the right so I can remove the axle without having to remove the muffler as well.
At the end of the day, as long as that nut's tight, who cares which side it's on?

My rear axle nut has always been on the right. Never bothered noticing if that was incorrect per manual. It shouldn't be an issue unless you have some exhaust setup where having it on one side makes it easier to clear something, as the last post mentioned.
This project started in confusion and will end in disarray.

Thanks guys. I was wondering about the whole "reverse threading" affect of flopping the axle.

It appears to be 18mm according to ebay...

Nope, not 18. That must be some other year. Looks more like 23 or 24mm. None of the schematics list the size either.

yeah personal preference. I have the nut on the left side so I don't bang the muffler with a wrench. If I need the axle out, I pull the whole wheel off thru the chain adjuster blocks.

With 4-4 origianal style pipes that's how you get the wheel/ axle off anyway. Tho now i have 4-1 header.

Exactly what I plan on doing MC. I've got this habit (from many projects) of trying to figure out what tools I need and lay them out! ;)
