This is one of three tanks I acquired in a pile of bits for my CB750 Cafe project.
To my knowledge the dark blue colour was never imported here. (Only Turquoise, Red, and Gold.)
Most significant though is the "Castrol" emblem. Could this have come from a 750 ridden in, or marshalling at, the Castrol 6-Hour?
The 'stuff' was being sold by a fellow in the Blue Mtns. on behalf of his son in Lithgow.
Have not been able find any relevant Six-Hour pikkies on the 'net, and sadly the cockies loved all my old copies of Two-Wheels and Revs. The little pricks even ate the label off the tin of Mortein I'd left in the box. BUT- they didn't get most of my collection of "
Cycle" Magazine. Probl'y 'cos it was printed on real paper rather than dunny paper.
And of all the mags I thought was by far the best and that would have been the last to fail it was
Cycle ((
Now I'm not too clued-up about attaching/inserting images, so should this be missing a pic then I'll try again.
For non-Australian readers (= mostly US), the Castrol Six Hour Race was a 6-hour endurance race for production, non-modified, out of the box bikes, started in 1969, and strangely enough sponsored by Castrol. Full live national TV coverage.
The rules were strictly enforced. One outright-winning bike was later disqualified for not having the factory-fitted horn. No joke.
