1973 750 race cam?
« on: March 07, 2006, 12:13:02 PM »
I'm trying to identify the cam that's in the K3 race motor I recently acquired. The engine is bored to 67mm, ported head w/ oversize intake valves, ARD magneto ignition, and other mods. The cam is stamped with the markings "K-134", "J-8", "CWC". I don't have the tools to measure lift & duration so before I take it to a shop I'd like to at least confirm whether it is a stock cam or not.

Also, does anyone know who was making cams for the 750's back in the early '70s?

Well, I just did a visual comparison using a ruler and a stock F2 cam. This mystery cam has between .08 and .1 more lift(intake), a lot more duration, and the lobe center? holds the valve fully open so long it is nearly flat. I've been trying to research these early race bikes online and so far nothing more than old magazine articles and pictures.

The motor is definitely a '73 and the bike was last reg'd in '75. I'm pretty sure that all the parts date back to this time. Does anyone know of a decent book or source of information that may cover specifics of parts used in this era?

It's probably an old Kenny Harman D grind.

Thanks Mike :)  The "K-134" stamp jarred something in my memory that made me think of the Kenny Harman "D" grind, but when I looked at my Megacycle spec sheet I didn't see that reference. I'll certainly look further.
