Actually, they said it was a 79' DOHC 750. I know that the 900 and 1000 engines like similar but,
I don't know if you can swap parts like cylinders, heads and cranks. If these parts can be made to
swap then, maybe that's how they did it. Maybe some one else could shed some light on the subject.

A 1400cc SOHC has been seen :)
How exactly do you teach abstinence though?
It's like beating a dead cow, it's fun, but it doens't really get you anywhere.

the 1170 is a SOHC...here is the pic (that is def a SOHC):

the description even says SOHC:

Dale's favorite Honda was his 1170 cc bored and stroked SOHC 750 named Blackie. This bike had 14.0:1 CR, aluminum I-beam connecting rods, polished and lightened crank, and a cylinder head with over 100 hours in it. In the early 80's, Blackie was one of the fastest normally aspirated Hondas of all time, setting the national record in the class at a 9.39 ET @ 142 mph. It may surprise you that that Dale ran these numbers with 29mm smooth bore Mikunis and manually powershifting the stock 5 speed trans.

The cb750F at the top is a DOHC, but scroll down and you will see the single cam.

AS for 1170 I've seen it before, Russ Colins I think has built motors that big and I have a freind with a 1070 SOHC drag motor laying around. At that point there is so much work done to it that the only stock parts are the cases and the crank and even they are modified.

1170 or 1400cc man I dont know what impresses me the most.  the time it would take to design and build one of these or the size of the knockers of the guy who blasted down the track the first time?

I guess I wouldn't call myself a drag fan, but we have a strip not far from here and I went down there several times years ago. There were several 750's. I have to say watching them light-off down the strip certainly got the adrenalin pumping.  ;)
We'll all be someone else's PO some day.

I have always beeninto drag racing but, I'm not really as interested in the Pro Bikes as I would be into
modified streetable bikes. I don't want to take anything away from those who ride the Pro Bikes, I'm just not into them, that's all. You know, take a modified 750 or whatever. I liked drag racing better when it wasn't so high dollar. more people could build something and have a chance of winning some races. Nowadays everything is so expensive, the little guy can't afford it. Wall, I've said enough.

Thats no BS. I'm currently working on a 1380cc motor. The cylinders are only bored out to 1015 they can be bored out as much as 1035 without being welded. I'm guessing thats what that guy did. The rest of the displacement is made up by the crank and rods. My dad drag raced kawa's in the early 70's then switched to Harley's later on. The spec sheets are in his shop right now I'll post crank numbers, rod length nd so on when I go back there. I might be setting up a website showcasing my bike build up soon.

that would be interesting to see the specs.  thanks for the info and good luck with the build.  I will be looking forward to seeing the pics of the bike when you get the website up.
