Starter Coils
« on: March 12, 2006, 09:48:50 AM »
I am restoring a !975 Honda CB550.  I have the universal coils that both have yellow leads.  Does the left coil as you sit on the seat go to the 1 and 4 cylinder plugs and connects to the yellow wire to the contacts and the right one goes to th 2 and 3 cylinder plugs and connects to the blue wire to the contacts?  Thank you very much for your help.  I have a wiring diagram, but it does tell which is left and what numbered cylinders they connect to.  Thanks. ???

1&4 blue coil.  2&3 yellow coil, on a stock bike.
It doesn't matter on which side of the bike a coil sits.  However, the coil that fires 1&4 connects to the Blue wire from the points.

However, if the spark advancer was assembled wrong, the timing will be 180 degrees out and the reversed colors will run the bike.
