72 cb500 start button troubles???
« on: July 25, 2010, 09:32:19 AM »
Ok here's whats going on.....I removed the right hand controls because the electric star would not work when I pressed the button.  When I touch the yellow/red wire to the bars to ground it out I'm getting spark....and the starter will not spin!!
If I cross the pos/neg on the starter solenoid it will start.....do I have a bad ground???

Im not that good with the electrical stuff, any help would be appreciated!!!

try running a jumper wire from the small wire on the start cylenoid to the + treminal on the battery. if it spens the motor over then the cylenoild is ok.

Yeah, I'd check the starter solenoid too. It sounds like your Yellow/Red wire has continuity to the starter switch, but your switch isn't switching. I'd take some voltage checks just to make sure though.

that would be the next thing back in line. some rubbing alcohol or contact cleaner may help get the switch to working again.

When you toch the yellow/red wire to the bar you get spark. Where do you get spark? Spark plugs, from the wire, or another area?
The starter button on 500 grounds to the bars. It will not work unless the control pod is fitted to the bars tightly,so it can grgound to them.
We'll move onto the starter solenoid after the above question is answered.
