I guess because it's a very late k1 that I have the hm341 pipes and k2 instruments. This was a transition period to the k2 so it explains a lot. I guess hondaman had the same thing on his.

I think you're probably deluding yourself mate, what you've got there is a "bitsa", i.e., it's made up of "bits of this, and bits of that".

Your bike had probably been "down the road" like most CB750's have been at one time or another, and the original K1 gauges have either been smashed or removed for some other reason (sold, used for another project etc) and someone's put K2 gauges back on, and with your mis-matched pipes, either they've been damaged or rusted out, and have been replaced with whatever's available.

Good thing is, the K1 is becoming more "collectable", and the parts that you need to make it right are still available. Cheers, Terry.

Call it "Bitsie", clean it up, and get it on the road. You'll at least chuckle, if not laugh out loud at the experts at Bike Night telling you what's wrong with your bike, then smile and wave as you ride away on your "unique" CB750.

I had a guy tell me my tail light, and top bridge were '73, and he used to assemble the bikes right out of the crate, so he was speaking from experience.

That guy was a few years my junior, (I'm 50) so that means he was putting K2's together at the ripe old age of 10

I doubt it. Maybe he handed his uncle a wrench on occasion.

And of course, I didn't mean any offence with my "Bitsa" analogy, some of the nicest bike's I've seen were bitsa's. My June BOTM winning K2 was purposely made with parts from many models of CB750, not to mention some borrowed from Yamaha and Suzuki as well. Interestingly enough, I've had lots of guys who've come up to me and told me that they had a gold K2 just like mine, "back in the day"? I'll bet they didn't............

I guess a "deal" depends on your geographical location. In big cities in Canada there are very few deals to be had. Things have really gone up in price in the last 5 years. You really have to go outside of the cities to find anything. I paid $1175 which I consider a good price but not really a steal. [/quote]

Wow! I won't even post a pic of my find out of embarassment now, I bought my first CB750 yesterday for $900, K4, doesn't even have carbs. Mines a bitsa this missing and a bitsa that broken. I just couldn't wait to find a 69-76, the chromes all nice on this one though and the motors clean. Nice score, I'm going to go look for parts now...

I'm not offended at all Terry. Just trying to figure out the 750 as I'm new to them but not CB's themselves. I won't be looking for K1 specific parts at all. I'm more about riding than image. I had a very good look at it recently and I think it'll start easily with kreeming the tank and a good carb clean. Good compression too. One of the pipes has a 1 inch hole in it so I'll have to take care of it too.

Post a pic Solo 2. Curious as to what's available in the west for $900. Edmonton had fewer of these bikes and with the oil boom prices have risen in the last little while. Like I said I had been looking for years for this bike at this price.

My 1972 CB750 does not have a gold painted headlight shell or ears the shell is black and the ears are chrome so...which is standard for a 72 ? Painted ears and shell or chromed ears and black shell ?

"1972" doesn't nail it's identity down. Could be a K1: painted shell and ears, or more likely a K2: chrome ears and black shell.

Nice start. Canadian 72's had a black headlight bucket and chrome headlight ears. The tank stripe and paint is a 71. I'd say it's "mostly" a 71.

that looks like a 16x3 rim with a car tire on it. Lots of people doing this nowadays to get more miles out of a tire on a bike. Since these folks do not corner much and do drive long distances often, they feel the pro's outweight the cons. Well, if that is a car tire.

Either way, this video is an interesting view.

I think you're absolutely right. That does look like a car tire on the cb750. The PO did do a lot of highway riding before he parked it. It came with "Olympic" touring luggage (in which I found a small sum of money).

Never noticed there is no 'e' in Whiskey on that label. Maybe because I drink more Knob Creek and Bookers (Jim Beam products).
