Couldn't Stand it any More
« on: March 07, 2006, 01:44:10 PM »
Well, it has been a long winter. The bike and I went into hibernation in mid-November. Though it wasn't a particularly bad winter for these parts it has seemed long. Thanksgiving to Xmas was bad, had us thinking oh, oh, this is going to be a doozy, but January was pretty mild, relatively speaking. Today was only in the mid-forties, but sunny, looked warmer than it was. I couldn't stand it and decided it was time for the first ride of the season. Put the battery back in and we both fired right up.  ;D It was only about 35 miles and all the ponds were still frozen over, but great ride just the same. It's forecast to be even warmer towards the end of the week, but I suspect it will come with rain. One clear advantage to riding the first week of March, no bugs.  :D

Did you cozy up to a fireplace when you got home? I just hope you don't get a foot of snow now that you've broken the ice with that first March ride!

Actually, it wasn't bad at all. Long sleeve shirt under the jacket, ski bibs over the jeans, and insulated Fieldsheer gloves. Next time I'll also use a scarf my daughter knitted for me to cut down the drafts around the neck.

Said to be around 60 here in Chi-town over the weekend.
I plan to spend the weekend wraping my pipes , installing my wicked-ass
cool finned engine covers, etc...

Riding season is almost here  ;D ;D

We've had the Spring teaser for the past two weeks here in Denver.  60's and 70's most days, but it's supposed to start snowing again tomorrow! >:(  I've been riding all Winter so I don't really have cabin fever, but I'm itching for that first long ride up in the mountains. ;D ;D

We've had a very dry and sunny period here (UK). It has been beautiful in the sunshine but still around 0C during the day.

I too got fed up with the traffic and looking at the sunshine so got my 500 out last weekend.  It was bloody freezing...

Today it's back to normal for early March, mild and wet.

It's suposed to reach 60 here in the notheast on saturday , warm enough to adjust valves, and
button up the 650. [then see if it runs} the drawback to spring here. Toooo much sand and salt. have to be really
     careful out there.......
Got to at least go around the block a few times!

Good luck with the valve adjustment and hope you get it out on the road. You may have to add rain to the mix. I managed to get out again yesterday and it will be warmer here over the next few days as well, but lots of rain too.  >:(

funny this thread popped up. I stretched the bikes in January, no sled riding but used the gear. Last couple of nights shiftintg rides around in garage and was planning on taking a spin on the 750. Seeing these robins all over the place now, well its a coming.

BTW, ya got to have more then one mount. That way you can wrench on one and go fetch parts on the others while saving fuel cost of the cage. Uhhmm, not sure the wife buys that saving fuel part cause it always seems I need to get something and takes a while to get that something the nicer it gets.

I got out for about an hour and a half on Monday after getting my inspection sticker. It was a brisk 40F degrees and I was almost dressed for it. It had been a while since I'd ridden and the bike having been somewhat rebuilt was like being on a new machine. It runs and handles better than it has in the 8-9 years I've had it. Damn! That was a good ride!

I rode over to Daytona last Friday....ratio of Hondas to Harleys was about 1 to 1000.  ::)
It was a great day for a ride...put over 150 miles on the CB.  I'm starting to get a little
paranoid at putting miles on it.  Maybe I'll get a CBR for "everyday" riding.  ;D

Bob, that is always the best.   The first ride is great and I love the smell of the bike coming up to temperature for the first time.  Also the feeling when the bike starts and runs through the gears without trouble.

I like the {"having a spare bike"} but my timing on getting it wasn't so good.{didn't ask the wife}
Last fall,   I found a little cm400t 1980 with 800 miles this kids father used it one summer or so..
got scared or something, and put it away for23 yrs. his kid sold it to me for 300 bucks,
even the tank was clean, tires don't even have cracks{still have knubbs} just had to go thru everything first. So it isn't ready yet either.
which is OK, as the sand is  A@# deep yet. It's not a sohc 4 but a nice machine..
the cb650sc will be running tomorrow........
