What would you want from Ontario based get togethers

A couple of nice rides, an occational informal meeting place and a sense of comraderie.
A little more organized, a few rides, a rally, an informal meeting place and a sense of comraderie.
Well organized, several regional rides, a couple of group rides , a national ride, informal  meeting places and to feel part of a dedicated group.
Im up for an occational ride and will try to make it to a rally.
I am too busy to commit but will join in whenever possible.

I trailered her through Sudbury in June this summer, I took her out to Cycle X for Ken to ride and tell me whether I had the carbs dialed in or not.   On the way back it was pouring like cats and dogs, took me four days to clean the road #$%* of her.  Time to by an enclosed trailer.  May ride her to Tobermory this summer then up through your neck of the woods fo a weekend run.

Beautiful weather but....

It was so nice today I thought I'd bundle up and go for a spin on the 550, and all was good for 45 minutes, a bit cool but nice and sunny. The gods were not smiling...went to shift down and the clutch cable broke :( Luckily I live in a rural area so there were no stoplights, managed to take the gravel roads almost all the way home, then a back street into my back laneway.
The cable was a Motion Pro and only a year old, needless to say I'm off to my local Honda dealer to order a genuine Honda cable, i suspect it will last longer,by the way, the cable broke right at the pin that holds it to the clutch lever at the handlebar.
This little incident reminded me of the last time I broke a clutch cable almost 30 years ago on my Suzuki GT750,we took a trip down to Niagara Falls on a Sunday...nobody open and no way to jury rig it...was I ever glad it was all highway back to Toronto.

Glad you got home with the broken cable.

Reminds me of the time a couple of years ago when I had the 305 Super Hawk out for a CVMG event.  I was riding it down into the city to the Exhibition grounds to meet up with some others.  Never made it!  My shift lever was worn and it gave way on the splines down about Queen Street.  I managed to get it going again after finding a better bolt at a Vespa shop (of all places to meet the nicest people too 8)) and started to limp home.  I got into fourth and it gave way again and wouldn't shift out, so I continued on in only that gear.  It was sort of a challenge negotiating the streetcars and traffic along Queen and heading up the Parkway with traffic, but we made it all the way up the 404 and then across Davis to home.  Mind you there was a lot of clutch slipping at times, as well as some concerned prayers going up the hills on the Parkway by the 401 with the traffic coming to almost a standstill  :P.  I think I only had one traffic light to completely stop for.

What a coincidence, my very first bike was a 1968 305 Superhawk, took all my summer earnings as an X-Ray film developer at Toronto General Hospital to buy it and insure it....wish I'd kept it but when your 18 and the bike bug bites it's on to bigger and faster...LOL

I snapped a clutch lever 35+ years ago on a Yamaha YD1 or YR1 (can't remember exactly) 1966 350cc oil burner.  I was kinda dumb about bikes, had no tools, so since it had a cable operated front brake I was able to move the clutch cable over to the right side brake lever!  That was a crazy 50km ride back to Mtl using my right hand to let the clutch out while giving her gas with the same hand.  I'm a little smarter now & would probably call CAA, haha.

Beautiful day today, my new clutch cable came late in the day yesterday so I was up first thing in the AM and put it on and was on the road by 10:00 AM, cruised up along River Road north of Shelburne and then north on Airport for a few miles and then just started taking random turns until I was completely lost...it was great !!!! Finally found my way back home by heading south til I hit 89...

Sure was a great day!  I'm guessing you didn't have that fog that was bad in the western GTA ,south of you.  No prob here either in the east, pulled the bike out for the first time in a few weeks (some surgery has kept me sidelined)  & went for a short squirt, put in some gas stabilizer, so I think I'm done for the seaso.  Ahh, now just dreaming of next year & hope some of us ON SOHC guys can meet up then!!

Agree with comments about the weather today!  The wife and I went for a good ride (on the Wing of course ::)) over to Newmarket today and we are planning on getting out again tomorrow.  Temperature was cool but it was registering 9-13 degrees on the Wing's thermo.  It was nice in the sun and with almost zero breeze.

I'm also looking forward to a meet next season on the SOHC-4's.

Pretty nice day agreed..but felt damp down on Lakeshore rd(Newcastle area) along the lake

Worst part about riding this late in the season especially later in the day(3-4 pm) is that the sun is so low in the south,if you are heading west, it shoots right into your eyes.................kind of sucks in and out of corners

On the ride home today ,I thought of a possible ride to do next summer.

http://www.motorcycleridefordad.org/

This is a ride that supports Prostate Cancer research,a lot of us are already at that age or getting there..

I did it 2 years ago in Whitby, and was the only SOHC there(78 550k) and one of the smallest bikes....there was a scooter, that was smaller..

I had no plans,of doing it again as I did not enjoy riding with all the Big boys, but if we had a group of older Honda's,that would be different......and I say older Honda's as I might be resting my 550 and riding my GL650i next year and my78k rides a CX

We could as a group decide where to do this ...whether it is in Southern On,central,or Near North...Just a thought.

Also met with another Ontario SOHCer on Fri....billk......(Lindsay On)....rides a 78 550.........

Quite honestly I am not into mass rides, as gas stops become epic.  Too many bikes and someone always pokes along, not to mention the marianette dance some arse-wipes perform.  I can see quite well and know when to signal, I don't need to feel like a lemming.

But having said that a ride with a bunch of guys out for a good day is fine with me, stopping at some watering hole for a beer or some non criminalized stuff is cool.  Sorry if I bummed some of ya out, I ride my bike to be free not confined by rules and waivers.

Sort-of agree with what you said Cqyqte, except that a lot of bikers are staying away from the alcoholized beverages when riding.  Given what you have to contend with on the roads, even when its by yourself or with a small group, that's probably a good mantra.

Say, I was in your lovely town of Tottenham today. 8)  The wife and I were on a ride and met-up with another couple on their bike, to have lunch at the Rusty Nail.  (I was tempted to have that beer, but we all stuck to coffee or tea.  Now its back home and time to enjoy that scotch.)

What a lovely day to ride although it did cool quickly . Unfortunately my rides are put away so I missed out and I'm busy building anyway. Cant wait for next year the Honda I am building is only the second I have ever owned the first being my very first legal bike  a 1967 Honda 125. I'm up for most rides although as others have stated really large group rides  tend to be tedious. I tend to stay clear of mass rides even though I have attended many but having 20 or so Honda's riding together would put a smile on my face.

Quite honestly I don't drink until the bikes in the garage, I drink the non-criminalized stuff.  But don't get me started I grew up when you drove home when you were too drunk to walk.  I hate the fact that society has built itself up with the taxes earned from alcohol sales to now making it unacceptable to drink and have fun, hypocrites!  Don't get me started!!!!!

I should have gone riding today instead of putting up the damn Christmas lights!!!

I would be up for the Ride for Dad! But yeah not as part of the cruiser crowd which seems to be the norm out this way....I think they ride out of Mackie's HD don't they?

I haven't rode with a group for maybe 40 years I wouldn't mind once more, but it is a kin to a group of Ferrari's in a convoy.

About ideas for rides, I am not sure how well this would work here in Ontario, but I was reading about two interesting ways of planning a ride at http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php?topic=79804.msg892048#msg892048

Im up for any sort of ride although Im not sure how long I can stay in a vintage saddle anymore :).  One ride I organized many years ago for bragging rights turned out to be very nice. West versus East versus North.
Started in Georgetown the West and spent maybe 4 hrs riding and eventually heading north to Barrie where the North took over and ended up in Parry Sound for the sport bike rally. Next day a little more North then the East took over and closed the day out. It was 12 hrs of riding over two days  saw some wicked roads then we all voted for bragging rights :) And the winner was? top secret :)

Just a quick post so that I can come back later.... planning a circumnavigate Lake Erie ride for next summer. We will start in Cleveland, Ohio and go counterclockwise around the lake. Plan on taking the roads closest to the water as possible and avoid the freeways and interstates. Probably make it a 2-3 day ride with either camping or using B&B's. People can join up with us at any point and ride till they make their own 360 trip. Any suggestions from our northern neighbors will be appreciated.

Sold my '78 CB550 K today in an effort to finance and complete either my '72 CB750 K or the '77 GT750....mostly tho' because I was out having too much fun on the 550...I  took her out for one last blast today as tomorrow she's gone and I have to say that I'm frozen...even if I was keeping her, today would have been the "for sure" last ride of the season :)

I've started to pull the batteries and cover them up for the season.  It looks like the riding is over until next spring.

BTW beelsamin, I think I saw you 550 posted in the "for sale" boards of kijiji.  Looks like a nice one and should make another very happy rider.  Be sure to tell them about this location.
