What would you want from Ontario based get togethers

A couple of nice rides, an occational informal meeting place and a sense of comraderie.
A little more organized, a few rides, a rally, an informal meeting place and a sense of comraderie.
Well organized, several regional rides, a couple of group rides , a national ride, informal  meeting places and to feel part of a dedicated group.
Im up for an occational ride and will try to make it to a rally.
I am too busy to commit but will join in whenever possible.

Maybe not:

BRAMPTON, ON. (June 15, 2010) – Starting mid-July 2010, the Region of Peel will begin stabilization of road and embankment works on Forks of the Credit Road in Caledon. Work is expected to continue to November 2010. Traffic will be restricted to local access only.

Anyone know if it is open and what they have done to it?

If they were doing 'embankment work', then its probably the 1st section coming in from Hwy 10 along the river.  Cascades from 24 south to Belfountin is open.

Thanks tintop - I'll take a look when I can.
It is a nice ride, isn't it? (as well as the Hockley Road that you suggested!)

Did you ever try 6th Line Nassagaweya? Down the escarpment to Milton?

Or Appleby Line as it comes off the escarpment?

Lots of neat places to ride here, although the highlights are short but sweet

The forks are a really nice ride but if they are out of action and you are on the east side try hwy36 east of Bobcaygeon to hwy 507 north to Gooderham then just get lost in the twisties. Elephant lake rd is up there also all wicked roads.

Interesting - north from the wife's family cottage on Sandy Lake, very near Buckhorn. I was there on the bike for Thanksgiving, but I have never gone in that direction - Thanks!

Appleby was the way we used to go to British Car Day @ Bronte when I had the MGC or 7.  There are lots of great twisties through that whole Escarpement area, including the 6th.  Your right about the best parts being somewhat short but sweet.  The trick would be to tie a bunch 'best parts' together into a ride.

Had forgot about that whole Haliburton area.  Your right about the 507 north area.  There's also great roads north of Kingston, going up towards Ottawa, but its been awhile since I've been there.

Back in the 1970's and 80's we lived in Agincourt which at the time was the outskirts of the city.  Being close-by and quite undeveloped at the time, Finch Ave. from Markham east to its end at the newly opened Metro Zoo was a lovely stretch on which to exercise my Super Hawk on weekend mornings.  I'd get up early before the wife and kids, put on a fresh pot of coffee, and then sneak out of the neighborhood for that nearby road.  After a cool blast up and back that deserted route, a fresh brewed cup of coffee was really good.  Together, the Hawk and I owned that road!

Here's a picture of it stopped on the bridge over the Rouge as it winds across that section of road.

You needed to make your own coffee because there were no Timys out there then.

I think I remember the road. Was it all paved back then?

Your are right - Timys were not too common yet, back then.  And yes, the road was all paved but some sections were getting a bit rough.  There were other challenges as well - like off-camphor corners that were full 90-degree turns.  We knew them all, and how to still minimize the run time.  I think I can still play the course in my head, and smell the coffee.

Hey guys, I haven't spent as much time on the forums of late and missed this one...

Anyways, although the name MY78K doesn't really apply anymore if you guys will put up with a guy riding an ugly toad with a transverse twin (CX500) then I would be happy to join in a few rides.

Dennis (in Whitby)

P.S. I also have a 1970 Dodge Dart that's a work in progress so if any of you are also into older cars and perhaps a member of a club shoot me a link. I am having a hard time finding one (at least not one that doesn't take itself too seriously!)

Oh, and HedNut consider yourself voted for! Although it was admittedly before I stumbled on this thread...

Maybe we can work something out HN....I really want to do the ride from my place north west to Tobey, jump on the ferry to Manitoulin then cross over north and ride east (hitting Sudbury) and then south down along the lake. Making a weekend of it maybe we can work something out depending on timing and when a meet up is scheduled. Doing a big loop like that we could have rendezvous points and guys could join up and leave as they wanted.

Dennis

Oh and I second the ride up to Gooderham but weekends aren't so great due to the number of cages you have to pass and with all those twisties you really gotta pick your spots which can be hard when riding in a group.

Did the Tobermory loop a couple years ago with my daughter on my 78 GL1000,
I went hwy 35 to  hwy 118 across to Mac Teer, north on 69(Kind of sucked) to Sudbury
Hwy 17 to Espanola ,south on #6 to Baymouth, ferry to Tobermory continued on down 6 to Hwy 26
to Collingwood ,to Springwater to Orillia and down 12 home........Newcastle..

We took our time and Stayed one night in Sudbury and one in Baymouth.....

One thing to consider is reservations on the ferry, may or may not be necessary depending on season and group size and motel in Baymouth, think there are only two,and the ferry left early in the morning.....

Im sure I speak for everyone when I say all are welcome MY78k so join in and throw some idea's around. Tintop has a great idea that he is working on and plans to reveal all when he has the details worked out. I also did the Manitoulin trip way back when I rode a brand new 81 750 F  it was a really nice bike and a nice trip. I remember riding up a sandy trail / road to the Cup and Saucer Lookout. I also remember the Finch / Zoo roads and still travel them once in a while , Plug Hat comes to mind. Maybe closer to spring we can do a poll to get a better idea on what everyone wants and maybe get a few suckers to organize some stuff.

Sounds like a lot of us have ridden the M.S. Chi-Cheemaun and done the Manitoulin route.  That is a great excursion and I really liked it too.  Elaine and I did it back in about 2002 on my Yamaha Roadstar that I had at the time.  We went the clockwise direction.  I have been thinking about doing it again.  (I believe the Nickel Belt section of the CVMG do a yearly event on the island.)  However, my 350 Four is rather small for a long-haul...that's an excuse because really I'm spoiled with my GL1800 and Elaine would kill me if I did something neat like that alone.  Besides, she only sits on the throne of the GL1800 now-a-days, although there was a time...

Awesome Pic!!

Sounds like this will turn out to be a sweet-meet n' ride tour.

I'll have to look into this CVMG Nickle belt chapter!

Cheers!

Hmmmmm? not sure if I'll get kicked off this site for admitting this or not.... please don't kill me... HAHAHAHA..

But since I've joined DO The Ton. West End Boys and D.T. chapters..(really fun crews ;-) )  I'm hardly on this site any more.. guess I missed this thread in my absences.. LOL

Well... you kids got my attention here again.. If theres rides going on.. lets open the communication and spread the word.. perhaps DTT and this group can do a joint caravan some time to some meets?

there's is some really nicely restored and balls out custom cafe's around the era, It would be killer to keep these numbers growing.

also.. In case any of you have not heard. there's a new shop in town. (Toronto)

I think I took my last cruise of the season today... The kids were gone for the day so I took the wife for a ride up to Great Blue Heron Casino for lunch and slots....enjoyed the lunch and broke even on the slots. It was a little cool on a naked bike but not too bad! I am holding out hope for another decent day or two but I am thinking I may be done for the year...fingers and toes are crossed!

Yeah, it looks like late fall here so I'm not sure if I can sneak another ride in be the white stuff hits, but I've got the solar charger hooked up so we'll see, and I am making increased noise about building a shop, by the way, there is another route out of Wiarton to Tobermory  that cuts out some of the traffic on #6 at least to Lionshead and is quite a enjoyable ride. Also Lionshead has a reasonable Pub/Restaurant combination.

Yes I've done that route when I've been up to the cottage in Sauble.  Good roads and places to eat, just the Amabel cops are a little quick to write for small violations like sound and parking.  I ride in the Shelbourne and Tottenham areas with the ocasional Thursday night rides to Hagens for a dog and Root Beer.
