What would you want from Ontario based get togethers

A couple of nice rides, an occational informal meeting place and a sense of comraderie.
A little more organized, a few rides, a rally, an informal meeting place and a sense of comraderie.
Well organized, several regional rides, a couple of group rides , a national ride, informal  meeting places and to feel part of a dedicated group.
Im up for an occational ride and will try to make it to a rally.
I am too busy to commit but will join in whenever possible.

Ontario riders
« on: October 06, 2010, 06:31:31 PM »
Hello everyone, I have been checking this great forum on and off for a couple of years now and found it to be a great source for information and a great place just to while away a few hours reading about and appreciating  bikes built by some very creative and skilled members. I also have built many bikes but this is my first SOHC4, a 1970 750 that I am building along side a 74 Triumph triple that I am bobbing. However the reason for this post is not to talk about builds but to enquire about Rides, Rallies and get togethers. I am located North of Toronto by 50 miles or so and have stopped by Hagens occasionally, use to do the vintage thing at Stoufville attended many Norton Rallies, some RFS and the occasional Vintage but Im always looking for more reasons to ride. Toronto offers a younger crowd with some radical cafe creations " do the ton"  but other than that it seems pretty dead. Does anyone know of some cool destinations or rallies that happen around this area? or is there a bunch of riders looking for the same thing ? if so please reply to this post.
Thx
Bones

Hi Bones

There is always the Paris rally in Paris Ontario.  Once a year, at the beginning of the season I believe.  Port Dover Friday the 13th meeting this year apparently drew 100,000 bikes.

Hi Bones,

I'm not too far from your location - south of Sunderland.

If you are looking for destinations and activities in your area (besides what has been mentioned), I'd suggest checking-out the CVMG organization.  The local chapter is called The Great Pine Ridge and every Sunday morning they have a ride-in for breakfast or coffee at Famous Sam's, located at Woodbine and Stouffville Road.  There usually is a nice gathering of vintage bikes each Sunday morning, except with the colder weather it seems that last weekend was pretty poorly attended.  I arrived a bit late, but only one other rider was there, followed by three others a bit later.  At any rate, we had a good chat and got warmer with a coffee.  Usually there are a number of SOHC 750's to view, as that is a popular choice of ride.  Here's their website to check: http://www.cvmg.camp7.org/

BTW I might pop over to Haugen's tonight, on my 1981 DOHC CB750-K.

Lets try to keep the thread going and maybe by next spring there will be enough intrested parties that we can organize something. I also tried the Stoufville meet many years ago when it was held at hwy48 and Stoufville s/rd but believe it or not the vintage crowd looked down upon my ride ( Norton Cafe Racer ) and did not have a good thing to say. Meanwhile the same bike has been in the Norton booth at the bike show many times. Ive been to the 13th rally and it was fine, a good days ride and a bit of fun. The sport bike rally is good too, nice creations, good people and the right time of year to camp and party :) Up until now my riding has been with newer bikes, longer distances, hard rides :) my vintage rides have been limited to around town and Haugens ( thanks for the correct spelling Tom ) so I am really looking forward to getting some Honda's together.

Wiarton isnt that far :)  Not sure what I would call a decent ride on a SOHC4 as most of my riding has been on modern machines but when I had my Comando on the road I enjoyed 5 hrs one up  in the saddle at the most. If we do manage to get a bunch of guys interested Im sure there would be rides that would accomadate us all. The sport rally around Parry Sound would work well for all. Lets just keep throwing out some thoughts and idea's and hope the winter is short :)

Two brave boys with fur lined underwear,  my excuse is I have to work Sunday :) Its good to see a couple of the guys braving the elements and showing the brand though!
I truly hope and see no reason why come next spring we can't have 20 or so Honda's make a few appearances around southern Ontario. I ride regularly with another Honda sohc owner and have some contact with another 3 or 4 Honda riders so 20 shouldnt be a lofty goal. If we spread the word over the winter then get some momentum going in the spring it should be a blast. We can list some venues and see what the interest is.
Sams looks to be a likely spot for a Sunday saunter.
Do the ton ( they meet at a cafe in Toronto ) would have to be invaded.
Sport bike rally ( Parry Sound ) would be a good camping meet.
Really ambitious would be to have a rising sun flag at the old bastards rally :)
Anyway lets keep in contact , I plan to spread the word over the winter and see what happens.

Made it to Sam's!  Not that cold a ride, but brisk.  It was nice meeting and riding partway back with Tom.

Here are our bikes and Tom (in yellow) probably moving about to get warmer.  (Maybe he'll post a picture of us on the road, as I recall him taking one then. ;))

70cbk0 - Nice bike! It wouldn't be much of a ride for you, but since I am between Georgetown and Erin I was wondering about the Scarborough bluffs as a possible destination, if I ever felt like fighting Toronto traffic to Bluffer's Park. I've never been there.

demon71 - Bill - I've been twice this summer to your area, as far as Lion's Head (beautiful!) and the other time around Grey Road 26 from Wiarton to Owen Sound - fabulous! I like to pick a new spot on the Bruce Trail so that I get a bit of a work out, as well as the Honda.

I've never been to Famous Sam's but Haugen's in Manchester is an old haunt of mine, stopped there last weekend on the way to the family cottage, it's about 1/2 way.

Are all of you on the Member Map? I am, but it seems pretty lonely around me. There don't seem to be many SOHC4's, but I know you are out there. I see you on the road.

Great stuff , already we have 10 intrested parties of which two have already made the effort to meet up. Great bikes by the way and nice of you to share the pics. It may be of some use for us to have a quick list to look at and see locations so I will post a list every once in a while with names and locations . If there is some way to access the info from the forum please let me know Im not the brightest when it comes to programs etc. We could also list all the venues mentioned and maybe get serious about picking a few closer to the spring. I would imagine there will be different levels of commitment as people will want to achieve different goals, in my case Im an old rocker of 57 from the UK that still hasnt lost the bike thing and all that it entails.
ps Im a virgin when it comes to Honda's so cut me some slack.
