Engineers Certificate
« on: October 10, 2010, 01:50:01 AM »
Hi,

I'm building up a cb550 into a little cafe racer, and the bike will be getting a Benjies cafe racer seat on it.

The plan was to cut the frame just behind the shock mounts and weld on a hoop, and put a plate in it and relocate all the electronics in there under the seat.

By cutting the frame will I still be able to get the bike registered?
Would need an engineers certificate?

I'm in Victoria,

I'll have a look into whats needed, I saw that you are supposed to have the rear mudguard at 45 degrees from the rear axle...
I was planning on not having a rear guard. so I might have to work out a few things

It probably could go unnoticed, because It'll look nice and neat

why not try and get it registered as stock as you can?then do the mods?vics pretty cool with stuff like that,so long as it dosent look dangerous or "wrong"ive been stopped enmasse with late model bikes and mine hardly gets more than a label check,i dont think they know what to look for on these older models.

I reckon thats going to be the best idea, or go club rego, I heard somewhere that club rego is going to be 90 days of unconditional riding, if thats the case I'll do that, if its only club days I'll give it a miss... I dunno if its true though, and I can't remember where i heard it haha, so chances are it's not going to happen...

we have "solo seat"rego here(qld),about two thirds less cost,i ride mine every chance i get,so i get good value,i had a fully road regoed yammy it 250(thinly disquised yz)for ages in vic.the club rego would be different in every state, get proper rego,,youll enjoy the freedom.back in the day i did my "L"s on a yammy it 400 ,with 398cc filed off and 246cc stamped into the block,i was checked out once by cops and it went over their heads, the 398 was a raised cast and my feeble effort paid off.my heart was pounding at the time the cop crouched down and looked there.(learners had to have 250cc then)i got away with a barrel as big as a prise winning water melon.
