OT: Wireless mouse gone crazy!
« on: October 05, 2010, 04:34:24 AM »
I'm having trouble with my wireless mouse. It's a Microsoft Wireless Lase Mouse 6000 v2.0. I also have the matching keyboard.

I've narrowed it down to the scroll wheel on the mouse. Something is sticking or hanging and making my window jerk up and down on the screen. It's also waking my computer out of power saving mode in the middle of the night.

I've changed batteries and reset the mouse and the keyboard. No luck. I don't see anyway to take the mouse apart to clean the roller.

I'm trying to replace it with the wired mouse that came with my computer. The computer isn't recognizing it. I've gone to "Control Panel"/"Mouse", but that's just set-up stuff....cursor speed, pointer options, etc.
Where do I go to choose the old, wired mouse?

Looks like I'll be swinging by Staples or Walmart later today for a new mouse/keyboard...  ::)

if you click your mouse more than 2 times, you just might be playing with it.
 ;)

this might be a hint...your mouse might have a secondary scroll function, where when you depress the scroll wheel[click], it will scroll the screen with mouse movements.

Nope....the mouse was just fubar'ed. And, of course, I could buy a new mouse OR a new keyboard, but neither would work with the transmitter that I had. That's how they get you to spend $45 on a new wireless keyboard/mouse set-up.

After you plug in the new mouse, did you reboot?  Sometimes you have to do that to get it to recognize the new mouse.

If it's a USB mouse it will take a few minutes to be recognised by the Operating System. If it's a PS2 mouse you will need to restart your PC for it to be recognised.
I have the same wireless mouse. It sucks.

Sorry about your mouse problem, but I gotta admit it made me remember some similar experiences and laugh.
Sometimes I'd have a hardware problem, you know, the dialog box that comes up and warns "Cannot find the device." and in exasperation I'd hold the scanner/printer/mouse/webcam up to the screen and yell "it's right fricking here you piece of crap, you're attached to it with a wire, how can you not find it you #@%!&!*$#@*!!!!!"

Sometimes it's just dirt in the scrollwheel. Try cleaning it.

If you can't take it apart, hold the mouse upside down and try rolling the wheel on you leg for a while when you have jeans on. If you have a female co-worker with tight jeans, even better. The tighter the jeans the better it cleans  ;)

if you think its fubar'd anyway.... try some contact cleaner and rapid rolling of said wheel. i've had it work, but ive also had it completely disable the mouse.
